SUMMER CAREER EXPLORATION SESSIONS
he Department of Labor and Regulation is offering teens and young adults between the ages of 14 and 21 opportunities to explore careers in their communities, interact with businesses and educators, and prepare for the world of work through Career Ready SD’s Summer Passport Series.
Fun and engaging activities have been planned across different East Central, Northeast, and South Central South Dakota communities. The sessions begin in early June and run through July.
Youth can choose from a variety of careers to explore including aviation, print, signage and media, cyber security, agronomy, law enforcement, and building trades. Business and college/university tours are also offered in some communities.
View or download flyers for each region with a list of activities each community offers at dlr.sd.gov/summer-passport. Click on the “Register” link for the corresponding region. Individuals may sign up for as many activities as they like, regardless of region.
Registration is not required but recommended.

Throughout the month of May, they will be airing profiles of area graduates on Eagle Country 95.9/96.3 and KDSJ 980 AM/103.5 FM. Then at the end of the month, they choose one participating graduate at random to receive a $500 scholarship.

SUMMER SCHOOL
Summer School is set up as an independent study program for those who wish to earn or recapture credits. Students will be assigned a teacher who will assist students with questions and tutoring they require.
Students who take summer school courses must be motivated, be able to comprehend what they read, and work independently. The work at SBHS Summer School is rigorous and takes self-discipline and motivation. The teachers are here to help you reach your goals; please feel free to ask questions at any time. What you get out of this experience depends on what you put into it. We have many unique opportunities and hope you will take advantage of them.
Classes Start May 28th and end June 27th. All course work must be completed by June 27th. Summer school hours are Monday work independently from home, Tuesday - Thursday from 7:00 AM to 11:00 AM.
For more information, click on the SBHS Summer School link below.
