CAPP English 101

CAPP English 101, taught by Mrs. Miller, is the freshman writing course at UWO that is available to our seniors to take in advance of graduating from high school. Each semester, students focus their writing around a central theme. Past themes have included Family, Multiculturalism, Happiness, and Awe. This year’s theme is Fun.

Students will explore questions such as: What is fun? Does having fun make us smarter? What can we learn about the importance of fun? And how does fun benefit us personally, professionally, and academically?

Coursework includes reading journal articles, leading discussions, practicing writing, and completing research that culminates in a formal paper.

Today, students added a little fun of their own by competing in a bubble gum bubble contest:

  • Biggest bubble: Aria

  • Most bubbles inside each other: Mrs. Miller

  • Messiest bubble: Luz

The classroom was filled with laughter and plenty of fun!

A Hot Day And a Cool Play: Students Experience A Midsummer Night’s Dream

Yesterday, Mrs. Miller’s students had the opportunity to experience live Shakespeare in Spring Green, Wisconsin. They attended an outdoor performance of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, one of Shakespeare’s most beloved comedies. Despite the hot weather, students enjoyed the play, represented Omro well, and capped off the day with some well-deserved food and ice cream on their way home.

An Introduction to XELLO

Xello is our online platform that supports students in exploring future career and college options by offering career-related assessments, detailed online profiles, and planning tools for both education and work pathways. Through Xello, students can learn about different industries, track their experiences, build resumes, and outline steps to achieve their goals, all while the platform adapts to their unique interests and needs. Students have access to Xello at any time, and we encourage you to have your student give you a tour of their account. This month’s Xello lesson focuses on the Matchmaker, one of the first activities students complete. With 39 thought-provoking questions, the Matchmaker helps students reflect on their interests and begin identifying potential career paths.
