Get Ready for Summer Reading!
Parents, one of the best ways to prepare your child for next school year is to encourage daily reading this summer. Remember these three simple principles: Encourage, Remind, Reward.
Encourage your child to read every day, remind them often, and reward their effort in ways that work for your family.
Here are the summer reading ideas I shared with students:
- Set a daily reading goal —minutes or pages—and help your child stick to it.
- Visit the local library weekly to keep book choices fresh and exciting and to join summer reading programs.
- Let kids choose what they read. Recommendations are great, but choice boosts motivation.
- Ask for book suggestions from friends, parents, and teachers.
- Read together as a family, especially more challenging books, to spark discussion.
- Track reading on a chart so kids can see their progress.
- Use small, ongoing rewards like praise, treats, or a new book.
- If reading slips, don’t give up—restart. Consistency matters more than perfection.
Good luck, and happy reading this summer!

Nurse's Spotlight
The end of the School year is quickly approaching!
If your student has one or more medications in the school clinic Please plan to pick up these medications no later than the last FULL DAY of school for students, May 21st.
Colorado Board of Health guidelines prohibit schools from storing medication over the summer when school is not in session. All medications not claimed by the last day of school will be disposed of per Colorado Board of Health guidelines.
If your student will be attending the extended childcare program this summer at his or her home school, we can transfer their unexpired medications to the care of the ECS Director for summer needs.
Have a safe and wonderful summer break!

Summer Safety Information for the Community
This Summer, Mountain Vista Elementary will be hosting two additional schools as part of our summer programming, which means we'll have three programs running on campus. With all of this activity, the playground will be in use by these programs throughout the majority of the day.
To help us stay in compliance with Colorado State licensing requirements for Extended Childcare Services and ensure everyone's safety, we kindly ask that children from the community are always supervised by an adult while using the playground. For the safety of all participants, children who are not accompanied by an adult will be asked to leave the playground.
We appreciate your understanding and support in helping us keep our campus safe and running smoothly for everyone .
Thank you for being a valued part of our community!
