This Week is Red Ribbon Week + Fentanyl Awareness Video
The purpose of Red Ribbon Week is to help keep kids drug-free.
Did you know that one tiny grain of fentanyl is a lethal dose? Fentanyl is a growing concern everywhere, including the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. This Red Ribbon Week, the district is spreading awareness of the dangers of fentanyl to our secondary students with age-appropriate lessons.
Please watch this special message from our district to learn more about fentanyl and have conversations with your children and loved ones about the dangers of this lethal drug. We want to thank our partners at Wylie Police Department for their assistance and participation in the video.

Bugging Out: Burnett 7th Grader Starts New Club
Like a moth to a flame, these Buccaneers are drawn to bugs. The Bug Club is a new student organization at Burnett Junior High School.
Seventh-grader Vincent Torres started the club to “meet new people who also like bugs.” The club meets once a month in room 633, a pretty fly room with neon signs creating a welcoming environment.
“I’m here because the club is super exciting,” eighth-grader Ethan Yee said. “There's so much life in here and it’s in the best room in the entire school!”

Staff/Faculty Highlight: Andrea Martinez
Full-time English Composition and Integrated Reading and Writing Professor and Wylie resident Andrea Martinez started working at Collin College in Fall 2019. She is currently part of the English faculty at the Wylie Campus but started at Collin as an embedded instructional tutor at the Anthony Peterson Center for Academic Assistance at the Plano Campus.
Martinez has worked in education for five years and holds a Bachelor of Arts in English and Psychology, and a Master of Arts in English, both from Texas A&M University Commerce.
What do you love most about your job?
Martinez: At Collin College, I sponsor students’ abilities in the classroom and encourage their reading and writing skills for future success. My favorite part of teaching and assisting students is being able to witness their transition from their role as a student to a contributing scholar and community member.
What would you like parents and students to know about the Wylie Campus?
Martinez: The Wylie Campus is a great place for students and the community. Collin College provides as many resources as possible for students to succeed and meet their goals. I work closely with the tutoring center and witness students succeed every semester because of their determined attitudes and use of available resources. If anyone is interested in learning more about the campus, I encourage all students and parents to tour the campus and learn more about what the college has to offer.
