Many of our students are electing to participate in the Maine East production of Matilda.

While I am very happy for them, I do want them to be aware that because they will miss nine of our 36 rehearsals, they will not be eligible to play leads in this year's show.

They will of course be welcome to be in the ensemble.

No Before or After School Rehearsals

All Eighth Grade Students are Welcome to meet with Mr. Fitzpatrick, the Maine South drama teacher, during lunch on Tuesday, December 17. You will bring your lunch to room 160 and stay in for recess to play acting games.

Vocal Power students collaborated to perform Jazz songs. The Jazz unit also focuses on Articulation of vowels. Learning how to extend a vowel, drop consonants, and scoop pitches in the jazz style helps a singer control their voice. Music 6 started their Melody Unit. They played melodies on the bell sets and recorders this week. The Musical Theatre Workshop Classes completed blocking their shows. The 7/8 Singers and Show Choir performed for the "Toys for Tots" and Hawkette Holiday Show this past weekend! They were incredible! Their Winter Concert on Wednesday night was absolutely lovely! Next they will perform at the Park RIdge Stroll!

Show Choir will rehearse on Tuesday before school (7:30 - 7:55)

and Tuesday after school (3:00 - 3:15)

7/8 Singers will rehearse on Thursday before school (7:30 - 7:55) and Thursday after school (3:00 - 3:15)

Singers may attend as many rehearsals as they wish each week. They are only expected to attend one rehearsal per group!

The All School Musical is a student chaired production.

Students lead and work all of the crews: Choreography, Costumes, Dance Captains, Hair & Make-up, Lights, Prop Construction, Publicity, Set Construction, Sound, and Stage.

All students who audition for the musical are cast!

Can Sixth and Seventh Graders get Leads?

Absolutely, if their audition is better than the Eighth Graders.

Do I have to audition in front of people?

Yes, you will be performing in front of people.

What if I am not happy with my audition, can I schedule another audition?

No, there isn't time for people to schedule multiple auditions.

What if two students have equally great auditions. How do you choose?

1. Eighth grade always gets priority if everything else is equal.

2. Participation in 7/8 Singers, and Show Choir counts in your favor.

For the past seventeen years, the Emerson Musical has been self funded.
