Hello Avon Lake!

Welcome back! As we soon close out the semester and have stepped into a new year, we are reminded of the fresh opportunities that lie ahead to learn, grow, and achieve together. This is a time to reflect on our accomplishments, set new goals, and embrace the challenges that will help us succeed. Let’s continue building on our successes through hard work, collaboration, and the support of our amazing school community.

Our positive school culture continues to thrive, thanks to the collective efforts of students, faculty, staff and stakeholders. This strong foundation of support and collaboration remains an important factor of Avon Lake High School, ensuring a nurturing and challenging environment for all.

I encourage everyone to stay communicative and engaged with our outstanding staff, as they are here to support and guide students throughout their journey. Together, we will continue to make this school year great!

Please visit our high school website, and pay special attention to social media and School Messenger for updates.

Thank you for your support.

Take care,

Michael J. May, Principal

Midterm Exam Schedule

Midterm Exams are scheduled for January 15, 16, and 17. We do not have an “open campus” for exams. Students may not leave the building between exams if they have exams on the ends and none in the middle. If a student is finished with exams for the day, they may leave at the end of their last exam period. If a student does not have an exam first period, they do not need to come to school until their first exam period.

Marching Shoremen News

November has been a very busy month for your Marching Shoremen! On November 2nd, they traveled to the OMEA State Marching Band Finals, performed their hearts out and earned a Superior rating! The last time the Marching Shoremen earned a superior rating at state marching band finals was 2019, so this was a very special moment for the students and staff!

Later in the month, we traveled to Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis to be spectators for Music for All's Grand Nationals Competition to support all of our Ohio Bands. It was a wonderful trip, the students saw amazing performances and are so inspired to bring this energy back to the band program!

On December 8th a large portion of our low brass will be performing in the Lorain Tuba Christmas at 2pm. Tuba Christmas started in New York 51 years ago and now there are hundreds of Tuba Christmas' all over the world! This event will take place at the Lorain Palace, admission is free, and there will be over 100 tuba and baritones beautifully performing Christmas carols!

The HS Band and Learwood Bands will have their holiday concert on December 10 in our Performing Arts Center at 7pm. Admission is free and after our performance, we will have refreshments in the Commons with performances by the Learwood and ALHS Jazz Bands.

Congrats to our students and we hope to see you at our performances!
