Meet the Teacher is Tonight!

We hope that all families will join us tonight between 5:30 and 7 pm at the Broadway building! Please see the information below regarding parking options around the school.

  • Receive elementary teacher assignments and middle school schedules.
  • Meet both classroom and specials/electives teachers.
  • Drop off school supplies in your homeroom classroom (click the link below for supply lists).
  • Drop off outgrown uniform pieces and pick up a few for this year (more info below).
  • Drop off medications and medical paperwork with the nurse.
  • Fill out the Free & Reduced Lunch form, which we request all families complete.
  • Ask any and all questions!

This year we will also have a great balloon backdrop for your back-to-school photos (courtesy of parent Kiley Salmons!), so be sure to stop by the MPR to grab a photo while you're at school!

First Day of School - Wednesday, August 13th

School begins this Wednesday, August 13th at 8 am! Please plan to drop off your child by 7:45 so that they can get settled in their classrooms. Before-school care is available beginning at 7 am, but please park and walk in with your child to sign them in if arriving between 7-7:45 am. Kindergarten through 4th graders may be walked to their classroom on the first day, but caregivers must leave by 8:10 am so that we can begin our school day.

If you have missed any of the previous Citizens Connection newsletters, please be sure to review them prior to the first day of school for important information. If you have additional questions, please review the Family Dashboard or ask them at Meet the Teacher tonight. Any remaining questions can be directed to your child's teacher(s), email info@cwckansascity.org, or call 816-499-8000.

Uniform Swap Tonight!

As part of Meet the Teacher tonight, we’ll be hosting a Uniform Swap. All of the items from our uniform closet will be available so families can choose a few pieces for their students.

Families are encouraged to bring any outgrown uniforms or spirit wear - these can be brought on Monday night or dropped off at school this Thursday or Friday.

We’d also love a couple of volunteers to help run the swap! If you’re able to lend a hand, please reach out to Ms. Jessie, our social worker, today!

5th-8th Grade Technology Use Agreement

If you have a 5th, 6th, 7th, or 8th grader at Citizens this year, please be sure to sign the Technology Use Agreement before Wednesday. Chromebooks will only be checked out to students with signed agreements. For more information and directions to sign the agreement, view this communication that was sent out on August 1st. You can email Ms. Kidd with any questions.

Family Parking Options

With the current construction being done on our campus, parking for families is limited to the streets surrounding the school. Please reference the map below when parking for all school events and when picking up your children from school. The yellow lines indicate parking that is generally an option for families, but please be sure to always follow parking guidelines and restrictions from the city, and don't forget to leave the spots directly in front of school available for our families who need handicapped parking.

After School Clubs - Proposal Form

We are already making plans for the first semester after-school clubs! Clubs, which will begin in mid-September, meet after school once a week for ten weeks on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays until 5 pm. The cost is $100, and there are limited scholarships available for students of families who qualify for free and reduced lunch.

Our clubs are taught by school staff, caregivers, and community members who are passionate about a skill or hobby that they want to share with our students. Some examples of popular clubs from previous years are yoga, Spanish club, cooking club, chess, soccer, Dungeons & Dragons, and crafting! Club mentors are paid $600 at the end of the semester for attending an orientation and teaching ten weeks of clubs. If you would like to be a club sponsor, please fill out this club proposal form by Monday, August 11th.

Volunteering at Citizens

If you are hoping to volunteer at Citizens during the school day, whether it is as a field trip chaperone, as a tutor in the classroom, or in other capacities around the school building, now is a great time to complete your background checks! Processing times can be as long as 2-3 weeks, and we want you to be prepared to jump in and help without waiting for your clearances later in the year.

Visit www.cwckansascity.org/volunteer (also available through the Family Dashboard) to get more information about these processes and to see a list of current volunteer opportunities.

If you have previously completed these screenings for Citizens, you do not need to do them again!

Please reach out to Ms. Gina at gina.hines@cwckansascity.org with any questions regarding background checks and volunteer opportunities.
