MTE FamilyNewsletterMarch 15, 2024

Dear MTE Families,

March is the month that we celebrate Disability Awareness. The purpose for Disability Month is to place an emphasis on increasing awareness, respect, and acceptance of people that have disabilities, and to bring a greater sense of pride to people with disabilities. The Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction in Washington State defines a disability as being a physical or mental impairment which substantially limits one or more major life activities. Taking time to do this kind of work in our schools helps our students to gain an understanding of the unique challenges faced by people with disabilities, build positive relationships, and reduce the negative stigma that often goes with a disability. Please partner with us by engaging with your students about what they are learning this month about people with disabilities.

With Appreciation,

Principal Losee

JOIN GIRLS ON THE RUN! JOIN GIRLS ON THE RUN!

Hello MTE families,

Girls on the Run is returning to MTE! Grades 3rd-6th

Girls on the run inspires individuals of all abilities to discover, build, and grow their self-confidence. Together, they experience a sense of belonging and connection as a team. Coaches will consist of teachers, counselor, and community volunteers who facilitate lessons that blend physical activity with life skill development, including managing emotions, fostering friendships, building confidence, and expressing empathy. There are limited spots available and are on a first come first serve basis.

This is an afterschool activity that will require family transportation.

Family Academy at Lynnwood Elementary Family Academy at Lynnwood Elementary

Lynnwood Elementary School is hosting a 3-week Family seminar/Family Academy. It is open to any family in the Edmonds School District. Our mission is to provide families with the knowledge and skills to partner with schools and communities to ensure their children achieve their full potential.

At this event, families will gain knowledge on how their child’s school and district function, and how to better prepare their students for college. This social change program teaches parents how to confidently and respectfully advocate for themselves and their students within the school system and their community.

Parents will have the opportunity to receive materials, share ideas, and gain clarity on how to support student learning at home.

Dinner will be provided!
