E.H.S Journey
November 2026
Dear Parent/Guardian:
It is hard to believe we have entered the 2nd quarter grading period. Fall sports season is wrapping up and winter sports has started training. Homecoming week was a success and performances have occurred or are in final preparations. In the classroom, students are experiencing new content and concepts such as inquiry-based learning, hands-on exploration and hearing from speakers from the community. As most courses and materials become new for students and content rigor progresses, please encourage your student to stay engaged, ask questions, participate, and grow. We are ever so grateful for the support you have shown in multiple ways for Elyria High School.

- Seniors, now is the time to start searching for scholarship opportunities! New scholarships are coming in on a rolling basis throughout the school year. Students should regularly check Naviance and the Class of 2027 Google Classroom for available scholarships and application deadlines. Paper copies of scholarship opportunities are also available in the Counseling Center. Encourage your student to check often—every opportunity can help make college more affordable!
- Student Leadership Opportunities Time to prepare your sophomore or junior for these summer opportunities:
- HOBY (Hugh O'Brien Youth Leadership Seminar) nominations are now open. Parents and EHS staff may nominate current Sophomore (10th grade) student leaders for this competitive opportunity which takes place next June. You can read more about it and add your student's name to this FORM. Nominations will close at midnight on NOVEMBER 18th. The winner will be notified in early December.
- Buckeye Boys State and Buckeye Girls State. In partnership with Elyria American Legion, Post 12, we are happy to continue the tradition of sending current Junior student leaders and those with leadership potential to attend Buckeye Boys State and Buckeye Girls State next June. The immersive, week-long mock-government experience is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Students interested in leadership and/or how government actually works should sign up on either Buckeye Girls State FORM or Buckeye Boys State FORM to attend an informational meeting in January. Multiple spots will be open.
