Scott Middle School's Motto- "We Enter to Learn and Leave to Achieve"
What Has Been Happening in Ms. Franklin's Classroom?
We learned so much in November! In 7th grade, we have been learning about three of the major world religions - Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. We completed a desert survivor simulation to see if we could survive in the desert like Bedouins. We also worked on a Google Earth activity where we studied major landmarks that are significant to Islam. We have used our mapping skills to show where Islam spread in the 7th and 8th centuries.
In 8th grade, we are learning about the 13 Colonies. We learned about the history of the southern colonies and played Jeopardy. We moved on to the New England colonies to learn about the Mayflower just in time for Thanksgiving. We started the middle colonies this week and the students enjoyed participating in a Reader's Theater together. Shortly after break, we will begin talking about the French and Indian War and what led up to the Declaration of Independence.
November Golden Ticket Prize Winners
Congratulations to our November Golden Ticket prize winners! Last Friday, we ran the November Golden Ticket Raffle from our PBIS Online Reward System. Golden Tickets are earned when students go above and beyond our expectations of Respect, Ownership, Courage, Kindness and Safety. Staff give them to students when they are really impressed. The following 10 students were given the choice of a school treat (Pencils, erasers, fidgets...) or a sweet treat.
Congratulations to: Olivia Smith, Ella Jenkins, Sebastian Mars, Kaiden Bolden, Jazlynn Rivera-Foster, Isabella Kravec, Gabrielle Ross, Nadian Barrios-Burrage, Luke Ramsay, and Shyann Mickens.
Keep up the great work! We are so proud of you!
Students of the Month for November
Jasir Roberts, Ta'Mirah Styer, and Zakai Brown
Congratulations to Jasir, Ta'Mirah and Zakai. These students were each nominated by teachers. They all have continued to improve in class by participating, working hard, and completing assignments. Jasir, Ta'Mirah, and Zakai try to be good role models for their friends and classmates. All three follow our ROCKS expectations and we are so proud of them! Keep up the great work!
November's Employee of the Month...Mr. Damien Henry!
Congratulations, Mr. Henry. Mr. Henry has recently transitioned from being one of our 6th Grade ELA teachers to one of our Deans of Students. He is always in the hallways and classrooms trying to help whoever he can students and staff. We are lucky to have him.
We also want to congratulate our runners up: Mrs. D'Angelo, Ms. Confer, and Nurse Ritter. All three staff members were given a gift card to treat themselves at Dunkin Donuts. We have an amazing team here at Scott!
Honor Roll Assembly
On Friday afternoon, our students and staff gathered in the auditorium to celebrate our Honor Roll recipients. During the assembly, we reflected on the close of the first marking period and discussed how we can continue to grow and improve when we return from break. Students were also excited to learn that throughout December, every Friday will include a fun opportunity for those who have earned no office referrals that week—courtesy of our PBIS team.
Our Honor Roll students were recognized individually, with their names announced, certificates awarded, and a special moment on stage for a photo and a round of applause. We are incredibly proud of how these students have started the school year. Keep up the great work!
Appreciation Dinner for Staff
Thank you to those that have donated already. Mrs. Kershner will be shopping today and setting up late afternoon. Pizzas and salads will be delivered around 4. If you would like to sign up and drop anything else off at the office when you stop by conferences, please do. Thank you for your generosity so we can show our staff how much we appreciate them!
