With permission from the family, I share some heartbreaking news. One of our first grade Lil Steamers, Benson V., was recently diagnosed with leukemia. He is currently undergoing treatment at the University of Iowa Hospitals and has a long road ahead of him.

All of us in River Bend are sending prayers and get well soon wishes to Benson and his family during this challenging time.

As the leaves change and we prepare for the Thanksgiving holiday, I wanted to take a moment to pause and reflect on all the wonderful reasons we have to be thankful here at FES.
I am thankful for our incredible students: Your children are the heart and soul of our school. From the excited way they share their learning in the hallways to the kindness they show a friend who needs a smile, they inspire us every single day to be our best. They come ready to learn, and their curiosity is truly infectious.
I am thankful for our dedicated staff: Our teachers, paraprofessionals, counselors, nurses, office staff, custodians, and cafeteria team are simply the best. They pour their hearts into creating a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment where every child feels seen and valued.
I am especially thankful for our parent and family partnership: Education is a team effort, and we are so grateful for the trust you place in us every day.
As you gather with your loved ones this week, please know that we are incredibly grateful to be a part of your child's journey. We hope you enjoy a relaxing, joyful, and restful break filled with warmth and good food!
