News from Dr. E
One of the hot topics right now is phone restrictions in schools. I am fortunate to work in an elementary school where all students are under 13 years old. Why do I point out the age part? Social Media has an age restriction that users must be 13 years. This includes SnapChat, TikTok, Instragram, Facebook. . . and the list goes on. I would encourage all families to discuss the following as a family and expectations for children.
Understand Age Restrictions
Most social media platforms require users to be at least 13 years old due to privacy laws like COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act).
Encourage children to follow these guidelines to ensure a safer online experience.
Set Clear Boundaries
Establish rules for screen time and online activities.
Use parental controls and privacy settings to protect your child’s information.
Model Positive Behavior
Demonstrate respectful and responsible technology use.
Encourage kindness and discourage negative interactions online.
Discuss Online Safety
Teach children to recognize and report inappropriate content or behavior.
Remind them never to share personal information online.
Stay Engaged
Keep an open dialogue about their online experiences.
Know which apps and websites your child is using and explore them together.
By promoting responsible digital habits, we can help our students become safe and respectful digital citizens. For additional resources, visit Common Sense Media.
Together, we can empower our children to navigate the digital world safely!

Dr. Tami Eshleman

NPHS Attendance
North Platte Public Schools believes in the importance of children being in school. Jefferson Elementary will be monitoring building, grade, classroom, and individual student's attendance. We are gifted with prizes for students who maintain less than Five or More Absences. We also recognize students with Perfect Attendance. This year we are monitoring our Monthly Absences by Grade, please make sure your students are coming to school.
Students who have a temperature above 100* will be sent home and will not be able to return until they have been fever free for 24 hours.
Attendance Goal
North Platte Public Schools works collaboratively with families to ensure that students are in school. Jefferson has 95.35% attendance rate for the school year. Excellent job parents getting your students to school. We strive to be above 95% as a school. If your family is facing barriers to get your child to school, please don't hesitate to reach out to Dr. Eshleman, Mrs. Fleck, or Mrs. Hahn so that we can get you in touch with community resources to help.
Mrs. Fleck does a great job of recognizing students for attendance goals and behavior expectations. We will be posting our March Class with the best attendance soon!
