Free and Fair Elections: The Role of Election Officials
In this two-day lesson from Facing History, students explore the importance of upholding fair and trustworthy elections and the role of election officials, political leaders, and voters in doing so. Students analyze the film The Officials to explore the role that election officials, political leaders, and voters play in ensuring that elections are fair and trustworthy, and then explore why respecting the results of a free and fair election plays a crucial role in maintaining a healthy democracy. These activities help students reflect on the norms, responsibilities, and individual choices that sustain democracy.
