Love First, Kids First
The Principal's Perspective
I'm so thankful to be an educator. Every morning presents a new perspective on life, including experiences of gratitude, concern, love, empathy, and grit. With each of these experiences, comes a deeper satisfaction for the many ways students at Ida Elementary experience learning opportunities. The continuum of learning, and how unique it is for each of us, will always be astounding to me along with the number of people willing to put forth the effort to make it challenging yet rewarding... always enough to come back another day and await what is next to come. This year has been special on so many levels, personally my son graduated from Air Force BMT to become an Airman and my daughter thrived her senior year of high school, graduated, and feels solid about her next phase in life. It is also hard to believe this was my 5th year as the elementary principal, 6th year as an administrator, and 24th year as an educator at Ida Elementary. The students continue to overwhelm me with emotion; I'm so deeply thankful for each of you and the students you trustingly share with us at school. Take time to treasure time together this summer because before we know it, we will be celebrating the beginning of a new school year.
With Appreciation,

When I Sail My Boat
When I sail my boat, a lot of time is spent on adjusting lines to make the boat move with the wind. Just when it seems like everything is tuned, the wind shifts, resulting in a continual fine-tuning. I can’t help but relate this to our system of education. Just as things seem well adjusted, the wind shifts and knocks us off course. But then we adjust our lines and monitor the effect. It takes some time and readjusting, but the result is always rewarding, and the boat keeps moving forward. ~SM
