Queer Clothing Swap - November 19th
Woodstock Pride is hosting a Queer Clothing Swap in the Woodstock Pride Community Center on Wednesday, November 19th from 5pm-8pm. Clean out your closet and find all those great pieces that just aren't working for you anymore, and find a new gender affirming fit to take home.
Donations can be brought to the space the day of the event, or dropped off in the donation bin in front of the Woodstock Pride Community Center before the event. Unclaimed clothing will be used to establish a permanent gender closet in the Community Center.
🎃October Recap🍂
Thank you for an AMAZING Gayla!
🔮Witches and Wizards of Woodstock🔮
Woodstock Pride helped bring a little magic to the Square again this year, participating in WWOW by selling witch hats and flower crowns at our booth. Thank you to everyone who dropped by, helped decorate some hats or assemble the flower crowns, and of course, our volunteers who ran the booth!
Rocky Horror Picture Show 👄
Finishing off our busy month, we made our way into a mysterious castle ( well, Opera House) for a night of fun and fright. Keeping up with tradition, WP assembles and sells prop kits for a little extra fun during the Opera House's screening of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. A scare of a time was had, with a costume contest, dancing, and plenty of singing along. Come in for the night and dance the Time Warp with us again next year!
Queer Joy
What We're Reading
"Flirting Lessons" by Jasmine Guillory is a gorgeous F/F slow-burn romance. Avery, who has always been a bit uptight, a bit straight-laced, is coming off a breakup with a guy who didn't treat her well, and she's thinking it might be time to try something different, if only she knew how. When Taylor takes on building up Avery's confidence and introducing her into "queer society" to practice flirting and possibly meet someone, she thought it was just something to do while she passes the summer time. Her best friend, Erica, has bet her she can't last two months without a new hookup, and she's determined to prove there's more depth to her. It's a romance, so you know where this is going, but, wow, is it fun and sweet and spicy along the way. Guillory really understands what it's like to be inside the head of each of these amazing women--how they process the world differently, their self-doubts and insecurities, and when they are capable of courage and growth.
What We're Listening To
Check out Queer Connections, a podcast about LGBTQ+ dating and relationships, with episodes on "The People-Pleasing Trap", ""Navigating the Path to Conscious Dating", "Unpacking ADHD's Impact on Relationships", and more.
What We're Watching
A queer hitman hunted by lesbian assassins? Yes, please! (And how many queer characters do you get to see in the action genre? Hopefully there will be more...) "Black Doves" is a 2024 British spy thriller about the wife of the Secretary for Defense, played by Keira Knightly, caught up in a spy ring that sells secrets to the highest bidder. Season 1 is available now; Season 2 in production. Available on Netflix.
If you're not already following Ben Whishaw, he's done fantastic work, including "Cloud Atlas," Ariel in Helen Mirren's "Tempest" movie, "A Very British Scandal" with Hugh Grant, and the best "Richard II." A lot of actors want to look good and be the hero of every movie, but Whishaw isn't afraid to play an enormous range.
