Message from Principal Rogers
Hello SIS Families,
We’ve had another wonderful week at SIS! Students are settling into their routines, navigating the building with more confidence, and becoming increasingly independent with lockers, transitions, and the day-to-day responsibilities of middle school. It has been great to see students building relationships with their teachers and peers while continuing to learn and demonstrate our schoolwide expectations. These first few weeks are all about establishing strong habits, and we appreciate your partnership in reinforcing those expectations at home.
Our Fall FastBridge screening went smoothly today. Thank you for helping ensure your student arrived prepared with a charged Chromebook and headphones. FastBridge provides us with important benchmark information about students’ reading and math skills and helps us monitor growth throughout the school year. This data also helps inform our instructional decisions and school improvement efforts. FastBridge results will be shared with families through Infinite Campus later this fall.
In addition to FastBridge, students will complete the IXL LevelUp Math Diagnostic on Tuesday, September 15, and the IXL LevelUp ELA Diagnostic on Thursday, September 17. We use IXL at SIS as an instructional tool to provide students with targeted practice in ELA and math. The LevelUp Diagnostic gives teachers more detailed, real-time information about what students know and are ready to learn next. Teachers can use this information to identify specific skills that may need additional support, personalize practice, and provide opportunities for enrichment based on individual student needs. While FastBridge provides us with valuable benchmark data, IXL gives teachers another layer of actionable information that can be used more immediately to inform classroom instruction and support student learning throughout the year.
We will follow an adjusted schedule on both testing days, with students beginning the day in Homeroom to complete the diagnostic before transitioning to their regular classes. Please review the adjusted schedules below and help your student come prepared with a fully charged Chromebook and wired headphones on both days.
As we settle into the school year, I also want to emphasize the importance of consistent, on-time attendance. Every school day matters, and arriving on time helps students begin their day ready to learn and minimizes missed instructional time. Please help your student arrive in class by 8:15 a.m. each day. If your student will be absent, arriving late, or leaving early for an appointment, please notify the main office so we can maintain accurate attendance records.
We are also still asking families to complete the Cell Phone/Wearable Technology Form indicating whether their student brings a cell phone and/or smartwatch to school. At this time, we have received responses from only about 40% of our families, so we need your help reaching 100% completion. Even if your student does not bring a cell phone or smartwatch to school, we still need a completed form for them. If you have not yet submitted the form, please take a few minutes to do so as soon as possible. Thank you to the families who have already completed it!
We have several opportunities coming up for families to connect with our SIS community. Our first SIS PTO meeting of the school year will be held on Wednesday, September 16, at 5:30 p.m. at Three Lions Pub. All SIS parents and guardians are welcome, and I hope to see many of you there! We are also looking forward to our upcoming SIS Family Orientation on Thursday, September 17. This evening is an opportunity for families to walk their student’s schedule, meet teachers, and learn more about their classes and the year ahead. Please see the schedule below.
Later this month, we will recognize School Safety Week, September 22–28. Throughout the week, students and staff will practice and reinforce our districtwide safety protocols so that everyone understands what to do in the event of an emergency. Please review this Safety Week letter for more information about what students can expect.
Finally, don’t forget that our SIS Back-to-School Picnic is tomorrow, September 11, from 5:00–7:00 p.m. at Hubbard Park! I’m looking forward to spending time with our students and families outside of the school day and hope to see many of you there.
As always, please take some time to review the important information and updates below. Have a wonderful rest of your week, and I look forward to connecting with many of you at the picnic, PTO meeting, and Family Orientation!
In Partnership,
Tiara Rogers, SIS Principal

SIS IXL LevelUp Screener: Tuesday & Thursday, September 15 & 17
We will have special bell schedules next Tuesday and Thursday (see below) so students can complete the IXL LevelUp Diagnostic screening. Students will begin the day in their Homeroom classes for this testing.
- Encourage your child to get a good night's sleep the night before testing, and to eat a healthy breakfast that morning. (Students may get breakfast in the SIS cafeteria between 7:45 and 8:15 a.m.)
- Make sure your student fully charges their computer overnight before each day of testing.
- On testing days, all students should bring with them:
- their chromebook
- headphones
- charging cable
- water bottle filled with water
- Calculators are embedded right into the math test for students to use when permitted.
SIS Parent/Guardian Orientation: Thursday, September 17, 6-8 p.m.
Please come to SIS Parent/Guardian Orientation next Thursday! The event is just for adult caregivers, giving you the opportunity to walk your child’s schedule and briefly see each of their teachers. If you are driving, try to arrive early enough to find street parking. Ask your student for their schedule (or look for it in Infinite Campus) so you can find your way around. We will have building maps available.
Note: because PE and Art/PLTW meet during the same period on alternating days, you can go to either class during the appropriate bell schedule period and meet the other teacher later in the evening if you wish.
Costa Rica Trip: Interested Traveler and Chaperone Q&A
Does your child take Spanish and want to know more about the Costa Rica Trip in the summer of 2027? Interested student travelers and guardians are invited to attend an optional informational meeting in Profe Anton’s Room 234 at SIS on one of these two dates:
- Monday, September 14, 4-5 pm OR
- Friday, September 18, 4-5 pm

From Previous Bulletins
Reporting School Absences and Appointments
We appreciate when guardians report student absences to the SIS office in a timely fashion. Whether your student needs to arrive late, leave school for an appointment, or will be out for the whole day, you now have three ways to report the information so we can keep things flowing smoothly. Please use whatever reporting method is easiest for you!
- Leave a voicemail on the attendance line at 414-963-6959
- Email sisinfo@shorewood.k12.wi.us
- Use the Infinite Campus Portal (More > Absence Requests)
For medical appointments, please submit the slip you receive from the doctor's office after the appointment to the main office, either on paper or via email to sisinfo@shorewood.k12.wi.us.
When your student was in elementary school, it may have seemed natural for you to notify their teacher about absences and appointments. You do not need to do that in grades 7-12. The office will record attendance information in Infinite Campus, where all of your child's teachers will see it.
Refer to the SSD 7-12 Grade Attendance Guidelines
To learn more about reporting student absences through the Infinite Campus website, please click here for a brief introduction or here for a video. The Campus Parent (Infinite Campus app) is available both on the Apple and Google Play stores. If you need help with accessing Infinite Campus, please contact Iris Bohan at ibohan@shorewood.k12.wi.us for assistance.
Welcome From the SIS PTO!
The SIS PTO says welcome to a new school year! Please read this letter that explains how you can give a one-time donation to help support all the wonderful extras the PTO plans to provide for our staff and students this school year, as well as opportunities for you to lend a hand!
Please join us for our first meeting on Wednesday, September 16 at 5:30 p.m. at Three Lions Pub. All are welcome! If you’d like to be involved in PTO planning and leadership, or just to help out when extra hands are needed, please send an email to sispto414@gmail.com
Welcome to Food Service at SIS

Wanted: Boxes of Kleenex!!
We no longer require boxes of tissue on the school supplies list, but we still count on families to donate this vital resource as early and as often as they are able. If you have the means, please consider sending a few boxes of tissues in with your student during the first few days of school. All of our noses will bless you!
Should families have to donate facial tissues to schools?
Schools already provide essential hygiene supplies—such as toilet paper, paper towels, napkins, and period products—by purchasing the lowest-cost options available. While this keeps budgets under control, it often results in low-quality items. If facial tissues were added to the school budget, they would likely be purchased in the same way. Anyone who has had a cold can imagine how unpleasant it would be to rely on tissues that feel like institutional-grade toilet paper.
Adding facial tissues to the budget would also require shifting funds away from instructional materials such as books, classroom supplies, and other learning resources. Although bulk purchasing might meet student needs, estimating the exact amount needed each year is difficult.
A more practical and flexible solution is to request voluntary donations throughout the year. If every student was able to bring three full-sized boxes, the communal supply might be sufficient. Families who can contribute more are welcome to do so, while families on tight budgets are not obligated to contribute at all. This approach helps maintain an adequate supply of tissues without burdening teachers or reducing funding for essential classroom materials.
Thank you!
SIS Yearbooks
Every year SIS creates the kind of Yearbook that most of you are probably familiar with from previous school years. At SIS, students who are interested in designing the Yearbook are encouraged to join the Yearbook Club. More information on that will be coming during the first weeks of school. Families can preorder a Yearbook by purchasing through Infinite Campus. (In the Fees tab, scroll down to click the Optional Payments button, and add “SIS Yearbook” to your cart.) The cost is $12, and Yearbooks will be distributed in June. Place your order anytime throughout the school year; we will send periodic emails to families who have not yet ordered a yearbook, to repeat these instructions.
If you would like to purchase a yearbook but are facing financial challenges, please email sisinfo@shorewood.k12.wi.us to request a yearbook free of charge. Thanks!
