Weekly Update - Middle School South
November 24, 2025
A Message of Thanks to our Middle School South Families
As we move through this season of gratitude, I want to take a moment to thank you, our families, for your partnership, trust, and support. It is an honor to lead your students each day and to watch them grow, learn, and shine. I am equally grateful for our incredible staff, whose dedication and heart make our school a place where students feel safe, inspired, and capable of great things. Thank you for being such an important part of our school community.
As we head into Thanksgiving break, I hope your family enjoys a restful, joyful, and well-deserved time together. We look forward to welcoming our students back refreshed and ready for the weeks ahead!
Reminder: NO SCHOOL
This week is Thanksgiving already!
Consequently, there will be NO SCHOOL on Wednesday, 11/26, Thursday, 11/27, and Friday, 11/28.
I hope your family will enjoy every moment of this time off, and I'm wishing you all peace and warmth.

REMINDER: HS Scheduling for 8th Graders
It feels unbelievable to be writing about this already, but in just a few weeks, a team of High School Counselors will be here at South to begin the process of getting our 8th Graders scheduled for the 26-27 school year -- their Freshman Year classes!
The scheduling timeline is planned as follows:
December 1st -- Initial Student Registration Kick-Off Week communication shared with families
December 8th -- Infinite Campus Student Registration Portal opens
December 11th -- 8th Grade Parent Night at Gahanna Lincoln High School
December 12th -- HS Counselors initial visit with 8th Grade students at MSS to discuss scheduling
January 11th -- Infinite Campus Student Registration Portal closes
January 26th - 30th -- HS Counselors meet with 8th Grade Students at MSS to review course requests
Please be advised that the above timeline is tentative, but you can/should mark your calendars for the 8th Grade Parent Night at Gahanna Lincoln High School on December 11th. More details will be shared closer to this event.
Linked below, I have included the 2025-2026 GLHS Program of Studies. These Programs of Studies are susceptible to changes from year to year, but I at least wanted to give you a glimpse at the very robust course landscape at the HS.
No need to stress! Our counselors will work in tandem with high-school counselors to guide your student and your family though this whole process!

NEW: From Our School Counselors
Our Weekly Career Spotlight is BACK! Keep reading below...
We should all have a Plan A, Plan B, and Plan C for our futures. We will be talking to you about some ideas. Don't forget... it is ok to grow and change your mind as new things interest you.
Big thanks to the students who suggested this week's career: Chemist
Chemists are scientists who like detectives for matter---they study and aim to understand what things are made of, how they behave, and how they can change. Chemists explore tiny particles like atoms and molecules, and how they react with each other. They work in labs, use their knowledge to solve problems, and use different tools to research and test many substances, from new medicines to new materials.
Becoming a chemist requires at least a bachelor's degree, however many research jobs require either a Master's or a Ph.D. It's important for chemists to enjoy/be skilled in science, math, physics, computers, critical thinking, speaking, and writing. Chemists can work in universities and colleges, various industries (making medicines, plastics, paints, etc.), and government laboratories (public safety, environmental protection). The average yearly salary is $84,150.
Thank you to all of you who suggested amazing career ideas!! We'll be sure to get your ideas featured here on Future Friday!
