Maltby Intermediate School
Determination, Optimism, Generosity, Solidarity
Greetings, Maltby Families!
Mr. Edwards and I are so excited to get our 2025-26 school year started. It was great seeing everyone at Orientation!
First Day of School
Our first day of school this year is Tuesday, September 2nd. It will be a full day for students.
*Our homeroom teachers will be waiting for our students outside the building on the first day. They will have signs with their names on it.
*Parents we ask that you give hugs and kisses where you drop off your students and let the student walk to the main sidewalk on their own.
*We promise to help all of our new Bullpups find everything they need and have a great first day of school!
Student Drop off and Pick Up
Parents, please take a moment to review our drop off and pick up procedures linked here and here.
The first couple of days will be slow. Patience and understanding will go a long way in making it a safe place for all our students, staff, and families.
We are eager to welcome all of our Bullpups to Maltby. It will be a great year of new friendships and new learning. It is our privilege to work with such an amazing group of students, families and dedicated educators.
Looking forward to another great year at Maltby Intermediate School!
Mr. Aten
Mr. Edwards

A couple of reminders:
- We do not allow students to ride home with their friends. This can pose an issue with our already limited resources, especially with transfer busses at elementary schools where additional students need to board.
- Students are only permitted to be picked up at an elementary school if they have a sibling attending there. Otherwise, they must ride the bus to their bus stop, or simply be picked up at Maltby.
- For the safety of all our students, the elementary bus parking lots are closed to families and is for busses or staff only. Please do not use the bus parking lot for drop-off or pick-up.
Thank you.
🙌 You are now able to report your Maltby student's attendance on ParentConnect!

Cell Phones at MIS
In accordance with the Brighton Area Schools Cell Phone policy, our students at MIS are permitted to bring their cell phones to school. We recognize the necessity and importance of family communication, but unfortunately ringing cell phones and the temptations of new games, cameras, and the technology that accompanies cell phones can present a distraction for your student and/or others in their classes.
Therefore, at MIS our students:
- Turn off cell phones at the beginning of the day and place them in their backpack.
- Students may NOT use cell phones from 8:50am-3:38pm.
- Utilize the main office phone to contact parents in the event of an emergency. Students may not contact a parent during that time from their cell phone. They MUST visit the office to contact parents.
- Smart watches must not be connected to Wi-Fi or cellular data during the school day.
We have had great success in keeping Maltby a distraction-free learning environment by following these procedures. In addition, we ask that parents please refrain from calling or texting their student during the school day.
Any messages of an emergency nature can be relayed to students through the front office at 810 299-3600. Please call before 3:05pm to ensure your child receives the message!
Thank you!

Pink Week Information - Pink Week Shirts and Sponsorship Opportunities
Pink Week Shirts
- As many of you know who have experienced it, Pink Week is one of the best weeks of the year at BHS! Our entire school and the Brighton community come together through both school and community-wide events to raise money for the Trinity Health Cancer Center in Brighton. More information will be coming out as the week gets closer. We appreciate any and all support this week as it is a fantastic opportunity to raise money for a great cause and to keep funds local! We also have shirts available for purchase via the BHS school store, The Paw.
- Online orders began on 8/1/25 and will run through 9/14/25. Orders will be available for pick up at BHS at The Paw (or delivery to BAS employees) starting on 9/22/25. As always, 100% of proceeds generated by The Paw from Pink Week items will go toward BAS' donation to the Trinity Health Cancer Center in Brighton.
Pink Week Sponsorship Opportunities
- In addition to participating in BHS' Pink Week events, we are also offering businesses the opportunity to serve as Pink Week Sponsors or make donations to our Pink Week Raffle. If you or someone you know may be interested in participating in either of these opportunities to support a great cause, feel free to share our Pink Week Sponsorship and Donation Flyer.
