Every Minute Counts!
Attendance and Tardiness
Attendance and timely arrival in school are crucial for a student's academic and personal development. Here's why:
1. Academic Success
Consistent Learning: Regular attendance ensures students don’t miss lessons, making it easier to understand concepts and keep up with the curriculum.
Better Performance: Students who attend school regularly are more likely to perform better on tests and assignments.
2. Development of Good Habits
Punctuality: Arriving on time teaches responsibility and the importance of respecting others' time—an essential life skill.
Time Management: Helps students plan their day effectively, promoting discipline.
3. Building Relationships
Peer Interaction: Being present and on time allows students to participate in group activities and form friendships.
Teacher Support: Regular attendance helps teachers understand a student’s strengths and weaknesses, allowing for better support.
4. Avoiding Gaps in Learning
Reduced Catch-Up Stress: Missing school or arriving late can lead to a backlog of work and confusion about current topics.
Better Continuity: Timely attendance helps maintain a smooth learning process without interruptions.
5. Long-Term Impact
Career Readiness: Good attendance habits translate into the workplace, where punctuality and reliability are expected.
Positive Reputation: Regular attendance reflects dedication and responsibility, which can positively influence recommendations and future opportunities.
In Summary:
Being present and on time isn't just about following rules—it's about building a foundation for success in school and life.

Regular and prompt attendance is essential to the successful completion of the elementary school program and is mandated by New Jersey Statute and Board of Education policy. New Jersey schools statute N.J.S.A. 18A:36-26 requires students to be present in school every day that school is in session. Any student that accumulates 10 or more unexcused absences is subject to the district filing a truancy complaint with the municipal/family court as per N.J.S.A. 18A:38-27. Excessive absences may lead to retention at the student's current grade level, truancy, and/or denial of participation in co-curricular activities.
