Thank a Teacher Day

The phrase, 'It takes a village to raise a child,' is at the heart of Thank a Teacher Day and at the Lister News desk, we want to take this moment on Thank a Teacher Day to praise all of the adults at Lister who pour their hearts and souls into making the learning journey for all of our students that much more successful. At points, that will involve challenge for our Lister students - we want to prepare students for their road through life - not prepare the road for them so that they are not ready for the demands of life after school. However, each and every adult at Lister is there to make sure that your children make the most of their time here. Whether it's the leaders on the gate in the morning who greet the students with a smile; or the office staff who chase up the latecomers; the form teachers who check in with students and make sure they're dressed in uniform for the day; or the support staff who can help with some of the obstacles in the day; and the teachers who are leading the learning - at the Lister News desk - we know that there are so many adults who are helping your children aim for excellence and we want to say a big THANK YOU to all of those staff members on Thank a Teacher Day.

Eid Ul Adha at Lister

In last week's assembly, we celebrated Eid and explored the difference between Eid Ul Adha and Eid Ul Fitr to make sure everybody in the school community understood the significance of the celebration. We also asked staff to reflect on what Eid means to them, and how they like to celebrate. Many of the students and teachers from our school community celebrated Eid Ul Adha with their families and came back to school on Tuesday with a renewed sense of purpose and vigour to succeed. We wish all members of our school community a positive and blessed time with their families.

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We are thrilled to share some incredible news with you! Following on from their success at the recent Panathlon Competition, our deaf students from Lister Community School recently participated in the prestigious London Youth Games, representing Newham with exceptional spirit and skill. The event, which brought together young athletes from across London, showcased talent and sportsmanship at its finest.

We are immensely proud to announce that our students achieved remarkable results:

2 Gold Medals

200m Girls - Sanija Gromova

200m Boys - Arshad Ajmal Khan

2 Silver Medals

400m Girls - Kitija Gromova

100m Girls - Grace Iffie

2 Bronze Medals

100m Boys - Kelvin Aboagye

400m Boys - Merverdy Misuri

This outstanding achievement is a testament to their hard work and dedication. Competing against some of the best young athletes in London, our students demonstrated not only their athletic abilities but also their determination and resilience.

The London Youth Games is a highly competitive event, and our students' success highlights the inclusive and supportive environment at Lister Community School, where every student is encouraged to aim for excellence in both academics and extracurricular activities.

We would like to extend our heartfelt congratulations to all the participants for their fantastic performances. Your achievements have made us all extremely proud, and you have set a wonderful example for your peers.

A special thank you to the Deaf Support Department staff, and parents for their continuous support and encouragement. Your commitment to fostering a nurturing and inclusive environment has been instrumental in helping our students achieve their goals.

Let's continue to celebrate and support our young athletes as they aim for excellence in all their future endeavours.

Two Strangers Carry a Cake Across New York

8 chosen students went to watch this new romantic-comedy at the Criterion Theatre, Piccadilly. They loved the story and were impressed that the whole play only had two people in it. The characters, a male from London and a female from New York, worked well together. Alisha liked the jokes. Venessa stated that the play was ‘in her style’ and Clement enjoyed the music and singing. The set was really clever as it had many suitcases piled high which became something else when opened up. Overall the students would recommend this play to other students.
