September 2026: From Your Principal
What an amazing first month of school! Thank you, Crippen families, for helping us get the year off to such a great start. Our Astronauts have worked hard to learn routines, practice procedures, build relationships, and settle into a successful school year. We are so proud of them!
Thank you also for your patience as we kept our campus closed to lunch visitors during the first month. This time allowed our teachers and staff to build relationships with students and establish strong routines, even in the cafeteria. We are now open for lunch visitors! Please refer to our lunch schedules when planning your visit, and remember that all visitors must present an unexpired photo ID to enter the campus.
While we are not setting aside a specific day for grandparents to visit during lunch, parents, grandparents, and other approved visitors are welcome to join their Astronaut for lunch at their convenience. Spreading visits throughout the month helps us keep our cafeteria running smoothly while allowing our students to stay focused on learning and succeeding.
As we head into September, our students have completed, or will soon complete, their beginning-of-year assessments. Now we begin using that information to determine what each student needs to grow. This is also a great time to remind our students about the importance of productive struggle.
Productive struggle means that learning is not always easy, and that is okay! Our teachers will not always give students the answer right away. Instead, they will ask questions, provide support, and encourage students to think, try different strategies, and work through challenging situations. We want our Astronauts to learn that not getting something the first time does not mean they cannot do it. It means they are still learning.
Every day in our Astronaut Cheer, we say, “Astronauts can do hard things!” We truly believe that. We know our students can grow academically, socially, and emotionally, but growth takes effort, persistence, and sometimes a little struggle along the way.
Thank you for reinforcing this message at home and for continuing to partner with us as we grow confident, capable Astronauts who are ready to SOAR!

Grandparent's Day
While we will not be hosting an on-campus Grandparent's Day event this year, we would love to honor the grandparents and special people who mean so much to our students.
Submit one special photo of your child with their grandparent(s) or grandparent figure, and we'll include it in our RCE Grandparents Day slideshow! Due September 11.
Any questions, please reach out to our Campus Academic Facilitator, Lisa Christian.
