A Great First Week—and an Incredible Achievement!

8/16/2026

Wildcat Families,

Congratulations to our students on a fantastic first week of school! It was wonderful to welcome them back and see our campus come alive again. The feeling throughout Westview is positive, energetic, and filled with excitement for the year ahead.

We also have some incredible news to celebrate! On Wednesday, the Texas Education Agency released school accountability ratings, and I am elated to announce that:

WESTVIEW MIDDLE SCHOOL EARNED A 76 (C) RATING—AN IMPROVEMENT OF TWO LETTER GRADES—AND TWO ACADEMIC DISTINCTIONS!

🏆 Academic Distinction in Science
🏆 Academic Distinction in Social Studies

Academic distinctions are awarded to campuses that demonstrate outstanding performance in a specific area when compared with similar schools across the state. This means Westview’s performance in Science and Social Studies ranked among the very best of campuses like ours!

After four years of ratings that did not reflect the true potential of our students and community, Westview is moving forward—and this achievement is only the beginning. Our school is filled with tremendous talent, determination, and positivity. I am confident that earning a B rating this school year is absolutely achievable!

Our teachers and staff are energized and ready to help every student reach their full potential—in academics, athletics, the arts, and beyond. This year, the talents of our Wildcats will be on display for everyone to see!

Teachers are beginning to meet individually with students to review their STAAR performance and set academic goals for the year. If you have questions about your child’s results, please contact your child’s counselor to arrange a meeting:

  • Rachel Cruz-Herget, students with last names A–G
    rachel.cruzherget@pfisd.net
  • Mariah O’Donnell, students with last names H–O
    mariah.odonnell@pfisd.net
  • Claudia Mergil, students with last names P–Z
    claudia.mergil@pfisd.net

You may also reach any of our counselors by calling our main office at (512) 594-2200.

During the first three days of school, we focused on helping students become familiar with our routines, procedures, and behavioral expectations. Beginning tomorrow, we will dive fully into our curriculum as students begin their academic journey. Students will complete initial diagnostic assessments and exit tickets so teachers can measure their understanding and provide the support they need. Our first major exams will not take place until the week of August 24.

Thank you to our students, staff, families, and community for believing in Westview and supporting our continued growth. We have proven what is possible when Wildcats work together—and we are just getting started!

The energy is high. The talent is undeniable. The momentum is real. Let’s keep climbing, Wildcats—our journey to a B begins now!

With Wildcat Pride,

Dr. Emily Delgado
Principal
Westview Middle School
