Welcome to Week Eighteen! Welcome to Week Eighteen!

Students and Families,

Welcome to this first full week of 2025. We hope that you and your families enjoyed the winter break and are ready to close out first semester on a strong and positive note.

Thank you,

The Parkside Staff

Semester One Ending

There are three weeks left in semester one. The semester/quarter 2 ends on Friday January 24. This is a good time to check your grades and make sure you continue to monitor them as the end of the quarter gets closer. Report cards will be distributed on Friday January 31.

Most students will have changes to their Unified Arts schedule for the second semester. Students can check Aspen for information on their schedule.

Daily Attendance and December Totals

Showing up to school everyday is critical for all students' well being, engagement and learning. We want to ensure that as many of our students as possible are attending school everyday.

Last year, 69% of Parkside students attended school for 90% of all school days (less than 18 absences). This year our goal is for 71.3% of students to attend school 90% or more of all school days. This goal is important because reducing the number of students who are chronically absent will help improve outcomes and lead to more academic success for these students. This year, 90 of our students have perfect attendance and another 463 students missed seven days or less. This means that 71.91% of students attended 90% or more which puts us on track to meet our goal.

If your child has missed eight or more days during this year, for any reason, they are on track to be chronically absent. Any student attending less than 90% of all school days is considered chronically absent. Chronic absenteeism is missing so much school for any reason that a student is academically at risk. Missing school and class time is detrimental to a student's own learning and can often be a distraction from the learning of others. If you are worried about your child's school attendance please talk with one of your child's teachers, their school counselor, our social worker or an administrator.

Weather and Morning Arrival

As the weather shifts and gets colder, please make sure your student is dressed appropriately in layers for the colder mornings when they are walking to school, at their bus stop or on school grounds. Unless it is raining, snowing or below 20 degrees, your child will be outside from when they arrive at school until 7:20. If you need a warm coat for your student please contact our social worker, Jillian Record via email jillianrecord@mansd.org or attend the event detailed below.
