Strong Partnerships, Strong Students: Join Us for Parent-Teacher Conferences
As we gear up for our upcoming Parent-Teacher Conferences on October 22 and 26, we are reminded that when families and educators work together, students thrive—academically, socially, and emotionally.
Why Your Partnership Matters
No one knows your child better than you do, and our teachers bring valuable expertise in how your child learns and grows in the classroom. When we collaborate, we create a complete picture of your child’s unique strengths, progress, and opportunities for growth. Conferences provide a dedicated time to celebrate achievements, align on goals, and ensure your child feels fully supported both at home and at school.
The Power of Showing Up
Beyond the conversation itself, simply attending parent-teacher conferences sends a powerful message to your child: Education matters.
When children see their parents and teachers sitting down together to talk about their learning, they realize that school is a priority worth investing in. This unified team builds confidence, reinforces positive habits, and helps students take pride in their work.
Preparing for Your Conference
To get the most out of our time together, consider these quick tips:
- Talk with your child beforehand: Ask them what they enjoy most about school and what areas they feel proud of or challenged by.
- Bring your questions: Whether it’s about reading progress, social interactions on the playground, or daily routines, we want to hear what’s on your mind.
- Follow up at home: Share the positive highlights from the meeting with your child so they know everyone is cheering them on.
Our teachers are excited to connect with you and partner in your child's success. Thank you for your continued dedication to our school community—we look forward to seeing you soon!
Lion's Loop
With the addition of our new track, the Lion’s Loop, we've introduced a new transition procedure between lunch and recess. Because a few parents have reached out with questions, we wanted to share how it works and why we’ve implemented it.
Why the Change?
When two grade levels overlap outside—even briefly—it creates a high volume of students to supervise and manage. At the same time, we know students would much rather head outdoors when they have finished eating rather than sitting at cafeteria tables waiting.
How It Works
Early Outdoor Access: When students are done eating they are dismissed to head outside.
One Lap on the Lion’s Loop: Students go directly to the Lion's Loop for one lap. They can walk and chat with friends or run—it’s entirely their choice. One time around the track is about 5 blocks or 1/4 of a mile.
Uninterrupted Recess: Moving students onto the track keeps the play space clear for the grade level currently on the playground, field and blacktop, ensuring that group retains full access to all equipment for their entire recess period.
Health Benefits: This plan aligns directly with our Physical Education curriculum, which emphasizes the lifelong benefits of cardiovascular health. Ms Parr-Van Zee and Mr. Leshovsky have been teaching students the specific physical and mental benefits of taking a lap on the track.
- Supports cardiovascular health: Running/walking gets the heart and lungs working and helps children develop healthy cardiovascular fitness.
- Builds healthy habits: Regular movement helps children establish an active lifestyle at an early age.
- Gets the body moving: A short lap provides an opportunity to use large muscle groups and increase daily physical activity.
- Supports focus and readiness: Physical activity can help children release extra energy and return to activities feeling more ready to learn.
- Supports mood and well-being: Movement can be a positive way for children to reduce stress and feel energized.
- Develops physical skills: Running/walking helps children practice coordination, balance, endurance, and body control.
- It’s brief and low-pressure: The goal is participation and movement—not speed, competition, or athletic performance.
- Recess is still for play: The lap is simply a short movement routine before students have their regular opportunity to play, socialize, and choose activities.
This new procedure gives students some extra time outside while keeping transitions safe, structured, and organized for everyone.
