Irving Elementary Weekly Update
Week of December 8th
Principal Message
Irving Families,
Thank you to everyone who came out and contributed to the OAV Food and Toy Drive. Your generosity will directly support families in our community. The toys will be donated to Thumbuddy Special, an organization founded by a former Physical Therapist at Irving. She partners with social workers throughout the Berwyn/Cicero area to help families in need shop for new, donated toys during the holiday season. The food donations will help stock our Little Free Pantry and will also be shared with local food banks to support families experiencing food insecurity.
Next week, our PTO will be hosting the Penguin Patch Holiday Shop. Students will visit the shop during the school day, and teachers will share their specific class shopping times. Please avoid sending your child to school with a large amount of money. The purpose of Penguin Patch is for students to experience the joy of giving by choosing small gifts for loved ones. The items themselves are not high in value, but the experience is meaningful for students.
Last week, a flyer about the Holiday Show went home with an error. Please refer to the corrected flyer. Our Morton Holiday Sing will take place on Tuesday, December 16th at 6:00 PM. Last week, a flyer about the Holiday Show went home with an error. Please refer to the corrected flyer. Our Morton Holiday Sing will take place on Tuesday, December 16th at 6:00 PM. Any family member is welcome to attend—we will have plenty of space for all who would like to join us. We will also be recording the performance and sharing it online for those who cannot attend in person.
This week, students will begin their benchmark assessments, which are administered three times a year. These assessments help us measure individual student growth as well as class and schoolwide progress.

Kindergarten and 1st Grade: FastBridge Reading and Math
-
2nd–5th Grade: MAP Reading and Math
Please make sure your child comes to school well rested so they can do their best.
Finally, as winter weather arrives, please keep in mind that we will go outside for recess when the feels-like temperature is above 15°. During winter months, please send your child with boots, gloves, a winter coat, and a hat. Students who would like to play in the snow must wear snow pants to school.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership.
