Message From the Principal
Dear Wildwood Families,
Hope you are all doing well. Life at Wildwood seems to be going pretty smoothly. I continue to spend a chunk of my day outside on the playground, supervising and occasionally playing with the students. We haven’t been able to use the field for the past couple of months, as it’s being reseeded. Once that opens up, it will be great to have some games out there. Today I watched some boys kick the balls against the fence, trying to kick it over to the field. Good thing there is an extra net on top - they were getting close! Sometimes it’s fun to see the creative things that the students find out there to do. I have some students who dig holes; I’m not sure what they are looking for but I hope they find it!
Last week, Coach Matt from Playworks came and spent the day at Wildwood. This is a follow up from a professional development session staff participated in back in August. He spent time on the yard, watched how things were running and gave us some suggestions as to what we can do to further support our students at recess. I’ll follow up and share the information with the staff at our next staff meeting.
And, as a reminder to all families, Wildwood Parent Club meetings are a great way to connect with one another and to get important information about what is going on at Wildwood and in the district. There is a meeting next week, Tuesday, January 28, in the library at 6:40pm. Superintendent Hawn will be there to get input regarding the principal hiring process, so join us!
And just a reminder, I am here on campus, Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Karen Gnusti is here Thursdays and Fridays. We communicate throughout the week and coordinate school work and supervision. My email is brhine@piedmont.k12.ca.us and Ms. G’s email is kgnusti@piedmont.k12.ca.us.
Thank you for all you do for Wildwood!

Illness at Wildwood - and Everywhere!
Seems like illness is running through the school. We’ve had quite a few children come to school sick and then ask to go home. If your child is sick, please keep them home. Remind them to wash their hands and not touch their nose, eyes or mouths (unless eating of course!). If they don’t have a fever and are recovering and coming back to school, please encourage them to wear a mask. Teachers are cleaning their desks regularly and our wonderful custodian, Javier, is keeping things clean here at school. We want everyone to stay healthy!
Bell Schedule
See above for our recess and lunch schedule. If you need to pick up a student for any reason please try to avoid lunch and recess times. Thank you!
School Wide Read-a-Thon
Dear Wildwood Families,
We are excited to announce a unique initiative that embodies the spirit of community and compassion in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. We will be launching a School-Wide Read-a-Thon to raise funds for the World Central Kitchen, helping to feed those impacted by the devastation from the Los Angeles wildfires.
WCK is first on the frontlines, providing meals and responding to humanitarian, climate, and community crises. When disaster strikes, WCK’s Relief Team mobilizes to the frontlines with the urgency to start cooking and providing meals to people in need. By partnering with organizations on the ground and activating a network of food trucks or emergency kitchens, WCK provides freshly made, nutritious meals to communities impacted by disasters quickly and effectively. We know that good food provides nourishment, comfort, and hope, especially in times of crisis.
Event Details:
Start Date: Monday, January 20th
End Date: Sunday, January 26th
During this week, students can read as much as possible, seek sponsorship from family and friends, and contribute to a meaningful cause. This event will promote literacy and a love for reading and help us unite as a community to support those in need.
How It Works:
Get Sponsored: Students will ask family and friends to sponsor them for every book or page they read during the read-a-thon.
Read: Students can choose books of their liking and read at home or during designated reading times at school.
Collect Donations: After the read-a-thon, students will collect and submit the pledged donations to the school.
Suggested Donation Amounts
For Kindergarten to 2nd Grade:
$0.50 per book: Encourages young readers to participate.
$2 for 4 books: A fun challenge for early readers.
$5 flat donation: Simple and straightforward for sponsors.
$10 for a week of reading or a more substantial contribution for those who can support more.
For 3rd to 5th Grade:
$2 per book: This is a great option for students who may read several books.
$5 for 5 books: Encourages students to read more.
$15 flat donation: Simple and straightforward for sponsors.
$20 for a week of reading: A more substantial contribution for those who want to support more.
$50 or more: For generous sponsors who want to make a bigger impact.
Thank you for supporting our Read-a-thon! Please complete the information on the link below and have your child return it to their classroom teacher.
By 7 pm on January 26th, please log on to The World Central Kitchen donation site to donate. Please return the pledge form to your child’s teacher so we can celebrate as a school at the close of this fundraiser.
Thank you for your support and participation in this important event. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of those affected by the wildfires while fostering a love for reading in our students.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Joanie Sears.
