SHS Students Inspire Young Readers with Original Book Reading at SES
Teacher Kelly Buck and a group of Sunnyvale High School students brought stories to life at Sunnyvale Elementary School. The SHS students wrote their very own children’s books and shared them by reading to elementary classes. What a wonderful way to inspire creativity and a love of reading!
Sunnyvale Intermediate School fifth graders learned how to harvest potatoes this week. Stovall, Turnipseed, and Purdy’s fifth-grade classes will be turning their harvested potatoes into delicious homemade French fries for all fifth graders to enjoy this coming Monday.
Incoming Freshman Get a Taste of the SHS Experience
Sunnyvale's future freshmen, SMS 8th graders, toured Sunnyvale High School on Wednesday, May 14 and had their first taste of high school. SHS Cheer taught spirit moves and the fight song, while clubs like Robotics, HOSA, BPA and National Art Honor Society encouraged them to become members. Students also learned about all the ways to get involved with Raider Band, theater and choir.
Gifted and Talented Fairs Highlight Student Creativity and Innovation
This week, Sunnyvale Intermediate and Middle School students showcased their talents and creativity at their respective Gifted and Talented (GT) fairs.
At Sunnyvale Intermediate, students captivated fair visitors with engaging presentations on a variety of fascinating topics. They shared insights about freshwater fish attraction to different lures, explained how books are made, explored paradoxes in math and baseball, and delved into the history of chess, among other intriguing subjects. Their enthusiasm for learning and ability to communicate complex ideas made the event both educational and inspiring.
Meanwhile, Sunnyvale Middle School students embraced entrepreneurship with a lively marketplace. They offered a diverse array of goods and services, including homemade brownies and cupcakes, a petting zoo experience, and blue and gold streamer hair weaves. This hands-on opportunity allowed students to develop business skills, creativity, and community engagement.
Both fairs celebrated the curiosity, innovation, and spirit of Sunnyvale ISD’s gifted learners, highlighting the district’s commitment to fostering student growth and exploration.
Hands-On Math Through Table Construction
Lisa Stovall's students recently put their math lessons to real-world application with a construction project. This hands-on experience not only made abstract concepts tangible but also fostered teamwork, creativity, and practical problem-solving. A huge thank you to the Education Foundation for generously granting the funds that made this hands-on project possible.
