Hello Students and Families!

I can't believe quarter 2 is here already! Many students worked hard last quarter and earned a number of credits. Attendance is a key indicator of success in school and attending everyday is really important. Please encourage your child to engage in school daily so they can achieve their goal of graduation. Quarter 2 is the shortest quarter of the year and will go by fast. We'd love to see you at conferences on Thursday, December 11 anytime between 3:30 - 6 on Thursday, December 11. A light meal will be served.

Application for Educational Benefits Application for Educational Benefits

While meals will be free for all students, it is still CRITICAL that families still complete the Application for Educational Benefits. These applications will continue to determine benefits and funding for schools, students and families. Some of the benefits for families include Sun Bucks, Amazon - 50% off Amazon Prime Membership, Xcel Energy’s Income-Qualified Home Energy Saving Program , Metro Transit’s Transit Assistance Program and much more. If you have not yet filled out the application form, please do so here:Application Order Form.

Mr. Robert Hickman-Paraprofessional

Mr. Hickman is a lifelong resident of Saint Paul and a proud graduate of Central High School. He joins us with valuable experience, having previously served as a community support liaison at both Washington and Humboldt.

He is passionate about education because he wants to do his part to help students improve their situations. This drive is captured by his favorite quote, from Langston Hughes: "What happens to a dream deferred? Does it dry up like a raisin in the sun?”

Mr. Hickman's commitment to our community runs deep. He comes from a family well-known for its community activism and work helping youth, and he is the great-nephew of the legendary Gordon Parks, for whom our school is named. He is also a father of four and a grandfather of three.

When he’s not working with students, Mr. Hickman is an avid reader and a talented visual artist. In fact, you will soon be able to see his work featured as part of the upcoming "Selby initiative," which will display art and banners on Selby Avenue.

Welcome Mr. Hickman!
