How Many Minutes Will We Read?
Can we do it again?
Last year, we read a total of 4,422 minutes during our month-long celebration of literacy. This year, we’re taking our reading adventure to “Camp Read-a-Lot”! Students are recording their reading minutes both at school and at home. You can track your minutes online on our read-a-thon website or using the paper sent home. I wonder how many more minutes we can read this year!
Minutes Read this week: 831
Bring the Kona Ice Truck and Programming to FES!
Francestown Elementary School has decided to hold a Read-A-Thon this year!
Read-A-Thons actually get your reader excited about reading and it gives friends and family the opportunity to encourage your child to read even more.
Our Read-A-Thon starts Monday, October 7, 2024.
About one week before our Read-A-Thon starts we will send home instructions on how to activate your reader's personal page. This is where you will be able to view and record their progress.
We encourage you to activate your reader’s account today by clicking on https://www.read-a-thon.com/readers/r/323831343236/1 and following the simple instructions.
We've chosen Read-A-Thon because it will not take much of your time, gives your child a reason to read and helps in the development of stronger reading skills.
Part of our Month of Literacy is to keep track of the number of minutes and books read. Please consider using the reading log sent home or logging minutes online. We announce the total number of minutes read everyday! You do not have to donate to participate!
We hope EVERYONE participates.
Thanks so much,
Francestown Elementary School
Outdoor Lion's Learning Begins Again
Twig, Squirrels, and Chipmunks
Francestown Elementary School has kicked off another year of Outdoor Lion's Learning. This week, we explored the fascinating world of squirrels. This year, our students will take on the role of citizen scientists, logging important data to support scientific research worldwide. Each student found a special spot in nature where they will return throughout the year to observe and document their findings. This hands-on experience helps deepen their connection with nature and contributes to real-world scientific studies.

Harvest Feast
Cornucopia - Fall 24, has come to an end! We spent the past 7 weeks cleaning the garden, prepping the garden for the winter and trying new foods. We ended our last session with a Harvest celebration with our families and friends! See you in the Spring!

Flying with Raptors
Our class spent a lot of time outside this week, not only with OLL, but with the Harris Center too! We learned about different wingspans of birds and compared their wingspan to ours. Our OLL group had to guess what was in a paper bag based on its texture, then find the partner with the same item.
