Dates to Save
This document is a good resource for trying to plan ahead. We are plugging in SHS dates and events as we hear of them. This is subject to change, but want to keep you all in the loop.
PreACT Testing - Wednesday, April 9th
Our state test, the PreACT is happening Wednesday, April 9 for all 9th and 10th graders. This is also a great opportunity to practice for the ACT. Freshman and Sophomores should come to school prepared with their charged laptop and their charger.
Breakfast and lunch will be free for all students, please encourage your student to eat to fuel their brain. We will have teachers helping to direct students to their testing room at 8:15.
After testing is completed approximately 12:15/12:30 they will be able to eat lunch and sign out for the day if they choose to do so. If they remain at SHS, they will stay with their testing room teacher. Busses will run as usual.
Family Engagement Opportunities
SMS and SHS PTSA
Our PTSA (Parent Teacher Student Association) helps create and implement ideas to support our secondary schools. They meet monthly at SHS. Here are some of their events that they have:
- Supporting Teachers during Conference Nights
- School Board Candidate Forum
- SHS Crock Pot Cooking Class
- Teacher Appreciation Week
- Collaboration with the SHS All Night Grad Party
- Supporting PBIS goals at both schools
Become a member here.
PTSA partnered with the UW Madison Extension Food WIse program to host a three night cooking class for Spartans and their families. Each night they received groceries to prepare a meal for 4 people to take home and go into a crockpot the next day. Those who needed, were given a free crockpot too! Families made fresh salsa, turkey chili, and chicken and rice casserole. At the end of the program, each family was given a cutting board donated by Epicurean. Thank you to our PTSA for bringing this valuable experience to our families!

PBIS at SHS
PBIS (positive behavior interventions and supports) is a system that focuses on reinforcing positive behavior by providing clear expectations to students and teaching them what those expectations look like in action. PBIS provides meaningful incentives for students when they are showing expected behavior and provides reteaching to students who may need more support in understanding how to show expected behavior throughout the building. Staff are encouraged to award students with a Spartan ticket, which they can turn in for various incentives. How can you help support our efforts? We are looking for prizes, gift cards, or experiences that will get our students excited. Any donations can be turned into the main office to the attention of Matt Amerson. We have also created this Amazon Wishlist. Another way to support is to shop the Spartan Shack online for gear we can use toward prizes. Our students love Spartan swag!

Community Resources
The Wisconsin Department of Health Services requires health departments to conduct a comprehensive Community Health Assessment (CHA) at least every three years. This assessment evaluates the current health status of Douglas County residents, identifying key health priorities and areas for improvement. The insights gained are instrumental in developing a strategic plan and community priorities to be focused on over the next three years. The survey takes less than 2 minutes to complete (12 questions).
