Response to Intervention (Jan 2019)
A R10 Multi Tiered Systems of Support Service
Calling All Directors/Coordinators of Intervention
The Multi Tiered Systems of Support Framework is Coming
Stakeholders across the state have spoken and TEA has listened. Clearing up misconceptions about when and how to execute a Response to Intervention (RtI) and/or Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS) model is an important piece of the Special Education Strategic Plan that was released in April 2018.
Prevention, Intervention and Enrichment are key fundamental educational aspects that ALL students (regardless of educational settings or "labels") are entitled to receive. So how does a campus or LEA provide a system of support that addresses both behavior and academics in a way that provides Prevention, Intervention and Enrichment opportunities for ALL students?
Wonder no more because TEA will be revealing Texas' Multi Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) Framework in the next few months. MTSS is designed to provide support for the WHOLE child for ALL students.
This framework will consist of RtI, PBIS, Restorative Practices, Trauma Informed Care and Cultural Responsive Pedagogy along with an emphasis on Community/School Collaboration, Professional Development, and Parent Engagement.
MTSS is built around the problem solving method of Define, Analyze, Implement and Evaluate as indicated in the illustration below. This allows a more fluid transition from tier to tier and allows a more in depth look at the student. While entrance and exit criteria, universal screeners and data collection are still integral pieces of the support system, the problem solving method allows for a whole child conversation to take place.
Stay tuned for more updates.
