Principal's Message
Now that we've completed our first week of school, I wanted to share how our newsletter is organized to help you quickly find the information you need.
- Action Items: This section highlights anything most families need to complete or be aware of. If you're short on time, this is the best place to start and make sure no important tasks are missed.
- Latest News & Information: New and timely updates will always appear near the top of the newsletter.
- Repeat & Relevant Information: Important reminders from previous newsletters that are still useful will be included here for easy reference.
- Outside of School Opportunities: This section features opportunities from our feeder schools and community partners.
- Quick Links & Newsletter Archive: At the bottom of each newsletter, you'll find frequently used links, along with links to all previous newsletters and a summary of their contents.
We hope this format makes it easier for you to stay informed and quickly locate the information most relevant to your family. Thanks for partnering with us!

Food Related FYIs
A quick heads up about a couple of food and drink reminders at CMS:
1. Morning Drinks
When students are released to homeroom at 8:45 a.m., they may not carry drinks in the hallway unless they are in a sealed container. If you stop for a drink on the way to school, please make sure your child has time to finish it before 8:45 a.m. or transfer it to a sealed container. We'd hate to see your hard-earned money end up in the trash!
2. Cafeteria Food and Drinks
Students may not leave the cafeteria with open food items or opened beverages, including pop-top drinks. While some students like to save items for later, open food and drinks often lead to spills, messes, and unwanted pests. Any food or drink purchased in the cafeteria must be consumed there or discarded before leaving.
Thank you for helping us keep our hallways and classrooms clean!
Carpool Reminders
Morning Carpool-
First, I want to thank all of you who are pulling down the plaza before stopping to let your child out in the morning. It makes a huge difference in how quickly our carpool line moves!
Second, our school police officer works 8:30-4:30. This allows him to support both am and pm carpool during his shift. Keep in mind if you drop your child off before 8:30am, there will not be a traffic officer on duty. Thanks for your patience and understanding.
Afternoon Carpool-
We have had some near misses with cars trying to change into the lane that is moving during pm carpool. For your safety, and the safety of others, we ask that you stay in your assigned lane during pm carpool. We alternate releasing cars from each lane, so they should move at the same pace.
CMS Assessment Calendars
Parents, please be sure to review the grade-level assessment calendars available on the CMS website and linked below. These calendars provide important dates for upcoming assessments throughout the school year. Teachers will continue to keep the calendar updated on a weekly basis.
To support student success and minimize disruptions, please check assessment dates when planning appointments, travel, or other absences, as missed assessments may require makeup testing.
Assessment Calendars:
If you have any questions about testing for a specific class, please contact the teacher of that course. Their email can be found on the CMS directory here: Staff - Crabapple Middle School.
iReady Inform Testing: August 10-18, 2026
Testing Schedule
- Reading: August 10-11 in all Language Arts classes
- Math: August 17-18 in all Math classes
About iReady The iReady Diagnostic is an adaptive assessment that helps teachers identify each student's strengths and areas for growth in reading and math. Results help guide instruction and support student learning.
Why Participation Matters When students do their best, teachers receive accurate data to:
- Identify strengths and learning needs
- Set personalized learning goals
- Measure academic growth
- Provide targeted support and enrichment
Important Reminder Student effort matters. Accurate results help ensure instruction is tailored to your child's individual needs and supports greater academic success.
Please see the attached flyer for additional information.

Bus Dismissal
Each of our buses is associated with a sport. Rather than calling bus numbers in the afternoon, we tell students what "sports" are on campus. Below is the chart showing what sport is connected with each bus number.
CMS Soccer Team Tryouts
- Attention boys’ and girls’ soccer players in 7th and 8th grade. The start of the middle school soccer season is quickly approaching. Our 8-game soccer season starts August 18th. We will have our first game on August 31st and the season lasts for about a month. Practices are usually once or twice per week with games every Monday and Wednesday.
- Soccer tryouts will be Tuesday, August 18th through Thursday, August 20th immediately after school until 5:30 pm. Bring cleats, shin guards, a soccer ball, and a water bottle to tryouts. Parents should pick up their players at 5:30 in the cul-de-sac next to the soccer field behind the school – use the entrance to the right of the school.
- If interested in trying out for the team, scan the QR code or visit the URL at the bottom of this document and complete all forms in Rank One, including a physical signed by a medical provider. All signed forms must be submitted in Rank One before tryouts begin on August 18th.
- We look forward to another fun-filled and exciting season. See Mr. Jordan in Room 621 with any questions or email him at jordanr7@fultonschools.org.
