Hello Centerview families!
Fall is in the air and the timing couldn’t be more perfect as Spring Lake Park is celebrating homecoming week across the district and right here at Centerview!
As a homecoming celebration reminder, tomorrow is when students can wear their favorite crazy, fun, or favorite hat before finishing off on Friday with Panther Spirit Day. It’s been fun so far so let’s keep it goin’!
Thank you for sharing your experiences in last week’s pulse check. We were happy to see that 97% of those responding were happy or mostly happy with Centerview as we started the school year. Here are some themes from the pulse check:
- Praise for caring, engaged teachers and staff who help students feel known, supported, and valued.
- Appreciation for strong, consistent communication between teachers, staff, and families
- Gratitude for a welcoming school experience that has helped students and families start the year positively
- Requests for more opportunities for students to move and have meaningful recess time during the school day
- Input on additional communication and support around individual student needs and transitions
We always share your praise with our staff and are reviewing all your feedback and taking it into consideration as we move forward. Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts with us.
Check your kiddos backpacks this afternoon as our Centerview annual FUNdraiser begins today. Yes, our awesome CV Parent Teacher Organization is asking students to talk with their families and friends about raising $5 from 5 people. The money raised goes right back to our students THIS YEAR! Another successful event means another ice-cold bucket of water right on top of me. We got this! Check out details below for more PTO information pertaining to our FUNdraiser.
As always, reach out with any questions or clarification!
Take care,
Mike
Stay Connected with Career & College Pathways
Our Career & College Pathways connect students with real-world learning and opportunities to help prepare them for life after high school. Our three pathways — Business and Entrepreneurship; Technology, Engineering and Design; and Health and Human Services — give students opportunities to explore careers, build skills and connect what they are learning in the classroom to the world beyond school.
Do you work in a career within one of these pathways? Do you know someone who does? We’re always looking to connect with people in these areas who may have ideas, expertise, industry experience or connections to share.
Join us for the upcoming Advisory Meeting & Classroom Visits on October 27: We're hosting industry partners for an Advisory Meeting & Classroom Visits on Tuesday, October 27, 7:15-9 a.m. at Spring Lake Park High School. This informal morning is an opportunity to hear what our teachers are doing, share ideas and best practices from your industry or area of expertise, and visit classrooms in the programs that interest you.
Stay in the know: Sign up for our monthly Community & Industry Partner Newsletter to hear about student stories, program highlights and upcoming opportunities to get involved in Career and College Pathways.
Interested in receiving the monthly newsletter, attending the October 27 meeting, or simply learning more? Contact Eric Van Brocklin, Lead for Community Partnerships & Career Advising, at evanbr@district16.org.

1,000 Paper Cranes in 1st Grade
Counting, creating and wishing for peace. After learning the inspiring story of “Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes” about a young girl in Japan who loved origami, first graders got to work sorting 1,000 cranes by color and in sets of 10. Today, paper cranes are a symbol of good luck, happiness, hope and peace. Once the display is complete, they’ll continue with a writing exercise “I would wish for...”
The Fun Run is coming up on Tuesday, October 6. Flyers and envelopes will be sent home with students this week. This is the only fundraiser for the Centerview PTO to raise money to support students and staff for the school year. Money raised from the Fun Run will go towards exciting things at the school like field trips, field day, family events such as the Glow Dance, and staff appreciation meals.
This is the only fundraiser for the Centerview PTO to raise money to support students and staff for the school year. Money raised from the Fun Run will go towards exciting things at the school like PTO Events, Graduations, Field Trips Busses, 4th Grade Field Day, Staff Appreciation, and Enrichment Supplies.
We are asking students to talk with their families and friends about raising $5 from 5 people. Pledge money in cash can be placed in the envelope students will receive next week or pledges can be made digitally here. All students will participate in the Fun Run regardless of funds raised.
This year, our goal is to raise $15,000 and if we meet this goal, we will get to pour a bucket of ice-cold water over Mr. Callahan’s head in front of the whole school! Please have your students return their pledge envelopes and money to their teacher by Monday, October 5th, to support the Fun Run.
Families are invited to attend and participate (bring your running shoes) in the Fun Run with the students during their designated grade time slots:
- 4th Grade: 9:45 - 10:40 a.m.
- 3rd Grade: 10:40 - 11:35 a.m.

- 2nd Grade: 1:55 - 2:50 p.m.
- 1st Grade: 2:50 - 3:45 p.m.
We look forward to seeing families come and cheer their students on!
New Course Connects Students to the World of Technology
What’s happening when you tell a robot to move from Point A to Point B?
Students in Spring Lake Park High School's new Machine & Technology Essentials class are finding out. While working in Scratch, a beginner's coding software, students are learning how to give a machine instructions to help the robot make its way through a maze. Coding is just one small piece of what students will learn in the new, trimester-long elective for grades 9-12.
This hands-on course introduces students to coding, mechatronics, cybersecurity and networking, helping them see how software, machines and technology work together. Along the way, students build technical skills, collaborate on projects and explore potential careers in the technology field.
The class is designed to meet students where they are, whether they come in with technical experience or are trying these skills for the first time. At the heart of course, students are getting the opportunity to try, explore and develop curiosity.
