College Applications & Academics

• Some CSU campuses have extended deadlines (e.g., CSU Monterey Bay until Feb 16). Check each campus individually.
• Report any dropped classes or low grades (C- or below, D/F immediately) to every college you applied to—failure to do so can result in rescinded offers.
• UCs require individual notification for changes; include your UC Application ID.
• Midyear reports are required only for some private colleges; UCs and CSUs do not require them unless requested.
• Names must match exactly across transcripts, applications, FAFSA, and test accounts.
• UC audits (“application verification”) are random—respond by Jan 31 if selected.
• Create and check college portals—this is how schools communicate decisions, to-do items, and financial aid.
• Early Decision/Action results may include acceptances, denials, or deferrals—deferral means you’re still in the running.

Community College Pathways

• Mt. SAC Honors and Fullerton College Honors offer strong transfer advantages (smaller classes, priority registration, higher transfer rates).
• Honors success requires strong work habits—start acting like an honors student now.
• Mt. SAC will host multiple application, account, and next-steps workshops (Jan–April).
• East San Gabriel ROP is a good option for technical training or transferable coursework.

Financial Aid

• FAFSA Workshop at DBHS: Jan 22, 5:30–7:30 pm (Library).
• FAFSA or CA Dream Act is REQUIRED to graduate (state law). Opt-out requires a signed form.
• FAFSA benefits all students, including community college and vocational programs.
• Types of aid:
• Grants – free money
• Work Study – on-campus jobs
• Loans – must be repaid; borrow cautiously
• FAFSA deadline: March 2, 2026
• Non-U.S. citizens may qualify through the California Dream Act (same deadline).
• FAFSA only sends to 20 schools at a time—you must update the list if needed.
• Cal Grant GPA verification is automatic—just submit FAFSA on time.
• Create a WebGrants4Students account to track state aid.
• Free Cash for College FAFSA/Dream Act webinars available through February.

Scholarships

• CSU Fullerton President’s Scholars (full tuition + perks)
• Delta Sigma Theta (African-American female seniors)
• Italian Catholic Federation (renewable awards)
• Black College Expo (Feb 14, Pomona Fairplex – scholarships & acceptances possible)
• Army ROTC (full-tuition scholarships with service commitment)
• Mensa Foundation ($2,500; due Jan 15)
• Vegetarian Resource Group ($5,000–$10,000; due Feb 20)
• Washington Crossing Foundation (government service focus; due Jan 15)
• Children of Warriors (veteran families; due Mar 1)

How to Use CCGI to Complete Your FAFSA

How to Use CCGI to Complete Your FAFSA

Follow these steps to complete your FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) through CCGI (CaliforniaColleges.edu). Using CCGI connects your FAFSA directly with your high school and makes the process smoother and more secure.

Step 1: Go to the CCGI Website Visit CaliforniaColleges.edu.

Step 2: Launch FAFSA Through CCGI After logging in, launch your FAFSA application from within CCGI. Important: Do not go directly to the FAFSA website. Starting from CCGI ensures your FAFSA links correctly to your school and district, helping your counselors track completion and avoid errors.

Step 3: Sign In With Your School Email Select "Sign in with Google" and use your school-issued email address (for example,@wvusd.org). This keeps your account connected to your school and gives you access to the correct CCGI tools.

Step 4: Complete Your FAFSA Once you've launched FAFSA through CCGI, follow the instructions to fill out and submit your FAFSA. Your information will transfer securely to the FAFSA site.
