Questions are being submitted via the form and via email/communication with PPC representatives.
There is a concern that some questions posed to the PPC are not policy questions and therefore the PPC can’t address them
Any question that is not a Policy question should be directed to Kelly Hayes, Damon Donnell or Jeremy White. (per Kendra Clay)
In the past Classified Shelf was the avenue to address concerns that are not policy questions. The Classified Shelf is no longer active.
The Classified Shelf is listed under ADMINISTRATIVE CABINETS, COUNCILS AND COMMITTEES/EDUCATIONAL RENEWAL CE/GDQ/KAB (beginning on page 4)
Update on classified staff receiving PD from Rusty Johnson on Emergency procedures,Catapult, Run Hide Fight.
Tabled-Damon Donnell was absent
The PPC will continue to review and amend the draft-tabled until next month
Update on Staff Evaluations
Staff Evaluations are listed as a Policy. Not all departments do staff evaluations. They need to be conducted or the Policy needs to be changed.
the district will work on that-per Kelly Hayes
Reading and proofing PPC Bylaws
Tabled to give all members time to review.
Where can staff ask questions that aren’t policy related?
The committee expressed concern about not having a visible chain of command for all classified staff in cases where the answer from a direct supervisor is unsatisfactory or if the issue is regarding their direct supervisor.
If classified staff has an issue that can’t be resolved the issue can be elevated to Kelly Hayes -per Dee Hobbs
The district will work on a flow chart to give clear direction on chain of command for classified staff and their respective departments- Per Jeremy White
The PPC members discussed that questions and concerns and frustrations from Classified staff might be lessened if there was a standard orientation or training where policies and protocols are covered when they are hired
The response given was “Questions can be addressed to the direct supervisor.” Per Kelly Hayes
*(Child Nutrition already has this in place)

Questions and Concerns
"Why do bus drivers get an attendance incentive of $20 and the bus aides do not get the incentive? (answer from Kelly Hayes) ""Bus routes are being canceled on a daily basis due to lack of drivers. The attendance was to encourage drivers to be at work. Isn’t there a shortage of bus aides also? Why do the bus drivers that drive the smaller buses get the incentive? They do not need a CDL to drive their bus. (Kelly Hayes also stated that the aides could get their CDL.)
There is not a shortage of bus aides. (Khayes)
Do bus drivers get comp time?
No. Bus drivers are paid for time worked beyond their contract hours. (Khayes)
"Now that the buildings are being closed for ""Snow Days.” How will the year-round contracts (ie-240 secretaries) be required to make up that day? My understanding is the 195 contracts for secretaries will have a day added to the end of their contract, as it was last year. Prior to last year, the year-round contracts were required to take a personal/vacation day if they chose not to come in on a snow day. The lower contracts are not required to report to the buildings, and a day was added to their contract at the end of the school year."
Individuals on a 240 day contract are accountable for the hours missed due to a snow day. (Khayes)
*If individuals are able to work remotely on Snow or AMI days this is an acceptable method to make up that time.If approved by their supervisor, individuals may work remotely.
When the extended contracts went from 262 to 240 and there was no pay cut, which means that these contracts are being paid for being off during the breaks (Thanksgiving break, Christmas break & Spring break) how is this fair for everyone else?
The move to 240 day contracts was to make Springdale equal to the other districts in terms of contract days. (Khayes)
The 203 contracts that were changed to 195 are now receiving one less sick day. We were told the change in contract days was "just on paper" since it was holidays only that were taken off. I understand 190 to 200 receive 10 days but why were not we grandfathered in with 11 days since we did not change the days we work. Also, why weren't we notified of this when the contracts were originally changed?
203 day contracts that were actually only working 195 days should have only been given 10 sick days per year. Previously providing the 203 day contracts with 11 sick days was incorrect. (KHayes)
Regarding Banquet Pay: Can there be an incentive for cafeteria workers who work these events since the rate is lower than it used to be?
I will visit with Mrs. Smith, Director of Child Nutrition, about this issue. (KHayes)
Why do custodians have to work their first 3 months without a contract?
Custodians are no longer required to work 90 days before being contracted. (Khayes)
Child Nutrition employees aren’t offered a contract until later in the year either-(Vicky Reed)
Kelly Hayes will visit with the Director of Child Nutrition regarding this
When custodians are asked to leave and go to another school, why are they asked to clock out at one school and then clock in at the next school? If this is part of the job and directed to do so by their supervisor, shouldn’t we be paid mileage for traveling to other schools?
I would assume that clocking in and out at each to school is to verify that the person went directly from one work location to the next work location. If a person is being required to use his/her personal vehicle on a regular basis to travel between work locations, then yes, the person should be paid mileage. Commuting mileage is not paid. (KHayes)
*Additionally custodians are not docked time for travel between schools. It gets fixed in Veritime (Jeremy White)
Can the split shift for custodians (that do the bathrooms) be moved to the 8:00 time slot? There are staff that are not happy with this new arrangement.
The schedules are set to maximize building coverage for Custodial responsibilities. (JW)
Could day shift custodians stay late to cover if they are short staffed for nights in their building?
Yes they just need to sign up for the overtime list.
How are you making sure that employees that are being used as interpreters/translators have the skills to do it? I have come across a few that are being used within their department and they do not have the skill to interpret or translate. (Answer)This is unacceptable, especially when these employees are being asked to convey valuable information to other employees. What is being done to fix this issue?
I would need more specific information in order to answer this question. In the meantime, I would encourage this person to let someone in authority know if an employee is not interpreting/translating appropriately. (KHayes)
Will IAs be able to attend training or time to collaborate?
The district is still in the process of determining what this will look like but the hope is that they will be able to collaborate as well, though it may not be every week.
Has there been any discussion of a longer contract for BITTs? BITTS work the same contract days as teachers. This makes it very difficult to complete all their job requirements. There is no time to prepare for the new school year or close out the year. Both of which can be time intensive since the district has 1 to 1 technology. All those devices have to be cleaned, inventoried and inspected before the end of the year. In the past they have been offered Comp Time. This is not a feasible solution.
No-Kelly will check on this
Are we ever going to have another Classified Banquet?
Kelly will check on this
