THE BEAR ESSENTIALS
Week of March 3, 2025
Dear Bear Families,
Our freshmen and sophomores have completed scheduling for next year, and our juniors will begin the scheduling process on Tuesday through their social studies classes. Students will be updating their Educational Development Plans (EDP's), as well. Please work with your child in looking over their course options and encourage them to plan for an engaging senior year. These sheets do need your signature before submitting them to the counseling office at the end of the week.
We are a quarter of the way through the second semester. If you haven't done so recently, please make a monitoring check on your student's academic progress. We will be holding Parent-Teacher Conferences on Wednesday evening. Conferences are in person and by appointment. There is information below that will help you sign up for appointments. This is a great opportunity to connect with your child's teachers to become informed about their progress up to this point.
One additional thing to plan for -- next week marks a 4-day week for students with district-wide professional development occuring on Friday for our staff.
We hope to see you at RHS on Wednesday evening!
As always, Go Bears!
Mr. Reynolds, Mr. Hickey, Ms. Wojtowicz, & Mr. Schley

Parent-Teacher Conferences
Our winter Parent-Teacher Conferences are just around the corner – scheduled for Wednesday, March 5, from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm. Conferences will be conducted in person and by appointment, allowing for a more personalized and efficient experience for both you and our teachers.
Within this post, you will find two essential documents to assist you in navigating the conference process:
A comprehensive list of teachers categorized by department, each accompanied by a link. These links will direct you to the respective Sign-Up Genius page for each teacher, where you can conveniently schedule a 5-minute conference slot that fits your schedule.
A document indicating the locations of each teacher during the conferences. Teachers will be stationed either in the cafeteria or the main gym. We've provided this information to help you plan your appointments thoughtfully. For instance, you may wish to allow for a brief gap between appointments if transitioning between the cafeteria and the gym.
To ensure the smooth operation of the event, please note that conference slots are limited to 5 minutes per session, and our teachers will adhere to this time limit.
We are looking forward to welcoming you to RHS on March 5 for this important event. Together, let's continue to support our students' growth and academic success.

Empty Pringle Cans Needed
Mrs. Weller is looking for Pringle cans for a community event that will be running at RHS on March 6, 2025. They need to be full size pringle cans with lids. No short cans or plastic cans. See photo below. We do not need the chips, only the cans. The RHS Science Club has kids making little telescopes out of the cans during our Party with the Stars event.
If you have any cans to donate, please bring them to the front desk or Mrs. Weller's room B-216. Thanks for your help.
Dress Code Reminders
Torsos must be covered during the school day. This means wearing shirts that cover the stomach, shoulder, and back. Crop tops, tube tops, shirts with spaghetti straps, and backless shirts need to be saved for after-school hours. Hats and keeping the hood up on a sweatshirt should also be saved for outside of school, as well.
Athletics
Spring Sports Letter from Mr. Schley
Spring Sports will be starting soon! Monday, March 10, is when practices/tryouts can begin. Be prepared by making sure your child has a sports physical turned in to the coach or athletic office on or before the first day of practice/tryouts. Coaches are instructed if there is not a sports physical on file then a student does not participate until that is done. If your son or daughter participated in a Fall or Winter sport the physical is good for the remainder of the school year. If this is the first season they are participating in this school year an MHSAA sports physical is required, a link is provided below:

All 9th grade or first time Roosevelt High School athletes must have a concussion awareness fact sheet parent form and a code of conduct form signed and returned to the athletic office. Links provided below.

Wyandotte Public Schools Athletic Academic Performance Policy:
Students who participate on District athletic teams are expected to maintain a high standard of academic performance. If an athlete is at risk for low academic performance, he/she will be placed on academic probation. This will occur if his/her most recent progress report or quarterly/semester grade report indicates lower than 1.67 GPA or he/she has an E in any subject area.
Athletes must have passed a minimum of 5 of 7 classes in the previous semester or the athlete will be ineligible for the rest of the school year. Failure of 1-2 classes and/or a lower GPA than 2.0 the student will be placed on academic probation, meaning they remain on the team and compete, but must show academic progress. If the athlete is failing 2 or more classes while on probation they will be ineligible for the week (Monday-Sunday) or until they are passing 6 of 7 classes. Weekly progress reports will be available and must be turned in on Fridays. It is the athletes responsibility to check with teachers to maintain weekly eligibility.
