Letter from Mr. V
Dear JES Community,
I will start this week's letter with gratitude. The first three days of school this year exceeded my expectations by quite a bit. The energy in the building was positive everywhere I went; from parents at drop off to staff in classrooms to students in the hallways, good vibes were abundant! My hat is off to all of you. Thank you for caring about your kiddos and our school!
As a quick note, please see the change in time for our Open House on the 15th. We have shifted the event to 5:00 to avoid overlapping with JESC after school programming. Please plan to join us if you are able as we would love to see you all!
Lastly, there were some items from our student handbook that some folks were unaware of last year. In the spirit of clarity, I'll be including some of those sections of our handbook in these Jag Journal letters to start the year. Please reach out to me if you have any questions or feedback! To start things off, a summary of our phone free school policy:
JES enforces a strict zero-use policy for all personal electronic devices throughout the entire school day, from arrival to dismissal, to minimize learning distractions.
Device Rules & Scope
Covered Devices: Cell phones, tablets, handheld games, earbuds/AirPods, and internet-connected smartwatches.
Expectations: Devices must be silenced and kept out of sight for the entire day in the safe location of the family's choosing, including during lunch, class transitions, restrooms, and assemblies.
Recording Prohibited: Taking photos, videos, or audio recordings without permission is strictly banned.
Liability: The school is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged personal devices.
Communication & Medical Exceptions
Parent-Student Contact: All communication during school hours must go through the main office phone.
Medical Exemptions: Permitted only for documented medical needs (e.g., diabetes or seizure monitoring) with written proof from a licensed medical professional, and restricted solely to that purpose.
