Welcome, Schmalz Sharks!

We created this Family Guide to be your go-to resource for all things Schmalz Elementary. Whether you are a new Schmalz family or have been part of our Shark family for years, this guide is designed to make it easy to find the information you need.

Inside, you will find important campus procedures, expectations, policies, and guidelines that help our school run safely, smoothly, and successfully.

This is the place to come when you have a question about how things work at Schmalz.

From arrival and dismissal procedures to attendance, campus visitors, student expectations, celebrations, communication, and more, we encourage families to refer to this guide throughout the school year.

Because some information may change during the year, families should always look for the most current information shared by Schmalz Elementary and Katy ISD.

Thank you for partnering with us to make Schmalz Elementary a safe, welcoming, and successful place for every student.

We are proud to be Schmalz Sharks! 🦈

Our Shared Commitment

At Schmalz Elementary, we believe that strong partnerships between students, families, and staff are essential to student success.

Our policies and procedures are not simply rules—they are designed to help us create a campus that is:

  • Safe
  • Welcoming
  • Respectful
  • Organized
  • Supportive
  • Focused on learning

Thank you for taking the time to become familiar with our expectations and for partnering with us throughout the school year.

Arrival & Dismissal Safety Reminders

To help ensure a safe, smooth, and efficient arrival each morning, we ask for your partnership in following our campus procedures. During the first few weeks of school, please pack your patience as everyone adjusts to new routines. Our first priority is always the safety of our students, staff, and families.

  • Please do not park or drop off students in the staff parking lot. We want to avoid students walking or running between parked cars and buses, which creates a serious safety hazard.
  • Remain in your vehicle and proceed through the designated Car Rider Line (green lane on the map) if you are dropping off your child.
  • No vehicles will be permitted in the front office parking lot during arrival or dismissal unless they have a designated car rider tag (pink car rider line on the map).
  • If your child walks to school, please remind them to use designated crosswalks, follow the directions of our crossing guards, and look both ways before crossing streets. Our crossing guards are there to help keep everyone safe.
  • Please do not park illegally on neighborhood streets, block driveways, or stop in no-parking zones. We are grateful to be part of this community and ask that everyone be respectful of our neighbors and their property.
  • Please follow the directions of staff members and crossing guards who are assisting with traffic. They are working to keep everyone safe and help traffic move as efficiently as possible.

Let's work together to keep all of our Schmalz Sharks safe! Thank you for your patience, cooperation, and commitment to making arrival a safe and positive start to every school day.

Volunteering - Voluntarios Volunteering - Voluntarios

Katy ISD Required Registration

Katy ISD requires all volunteers serving on or off-campus during or after the instructional day to register with the district through its Raptor security system.

Katy ISD’s Raptor safety protocol will require volunteers to register (or re-register) annually, thus creating a new volunteer profile each year.

The District's Raptor Volunteer Initiative provides an additional layer of protection for our Katy ISD students, staff, volunteers, and visitors, prioritizing the safety and security of our entire Katy ISD family.

Once registered and approved, individual volunteers can submit and track hours via their volunteer profile for every Katy ISD campus at which they volunteer. The system also provides quick and easy submission of individual off-campus volunteer hours.

KEYS MENTORING

We are searching for campus mentors!

The KEYS Mentoring program (Keep Encouraging Youth toward Success) has been so helpful to our students in Katy ISD. I'm sure you are aware that mentoring creates a positive impact in youth’s lives. They find more self-confidence, self-esteem, and are able to create big goals for themselves. Our goal is for every student who needs a mentor to have one. No waitlists, or students who go without because we are short. If you are open to mentoring or know someone who would love to mentor at Schmalz, please complete or share the application at the link below and be sure to choose Schmalz as your mentor campus. Likewise, if you would like your student to have a mentor, please contact one of the school counselors for more information.
