Wildcat Weekly- 8/18-8/22

Message from Principal Martinez 🐾
Dear Wildcat Families:
We’ve had a fantastic first week of school! The classrooms are buzzing with energy, curiosity, and new friendships. It’s been such a joy to see our students settling into routines, engaging in learning, and already showing great teamwork and school spirit.
Next week, we look forward to welcoming you to Back to School Night onThursday, August 21. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet your child’s teacher, learn more about the year ahead, and see how we can partner together for your child’s success. More details on this evening will be shared by your teacher.
Thank you for your support in making the start of our school year such a positive experience. We can’t wait to share more with you next week!

Drop off & Pick Up Routines
Beginning of the School Day
There are two ways for students to enter school in the morning,
(1) the Walker Gate by the lower baseball fields and
(2) the Upper Gate by the upper parking lot.
🚶Walker Gate: Students who walk to school and those who arrive between 8:15 am and 8:25 am for breakfast will enter through the Walker Gate.
🚗Upper Gate: Students who are driven to school and arrive after 8:25 am, will be dropped off in the upper parking lot at the Upper Gate.
Students who arrive between 8:15 am and 8:25 am
If students arrive between 8:15 am and 8:25 am they must enter through the Walker Gate near the lower baseball fields, so families will need to drop them off near this gate. If you are driving, please drop your student(s) off on the same side of the street as the school so they do not need to cross Ninth St.
Students who are driven to school and arrive after 8:25 am
Students arriving by car at 8:25 am or later can be dropped off at the Upper Gate in the upper parking lot and will then walk across the playground to the cafeteria if they are eating breakfast.
Playground
Playground supervision begins at 8:25 am so students should not be on the playground until then. Except for the first day of school, families will not be allowed on campus before school. Students can be dropped off in the upper parking lot, families will remain in their cars, or students who walk will enter through the Walker Gate on the east side of school by the lower baseball fields. Staff will be available to assist in both locations. Students can play on the playground until the bell rings at 8:40 am, when they will line up and then walk to class with their teacher.
TK & Kindergarten Drop Off/Pickup Changes
Starting Monday, August 18th
In an effort to make pickup and drop off run smoothly and safely for our youngest learners we are making a change to both our drop off and pick up procedures.
TK Families
TK families will park and walk their child(ren) to the gate by the TK playground. One of the TK teachers will be there directing students directly to the playground. Students will not go to the classrooms to hang up their backpacks before school. They will bring those to the playground. Another teacher will show them where to put their backpacks so they can play.
For dismissal all TK students will be dismissed from the TK playground gate. Parents, please arrive a little bit early to park and walk down to the front gate. All siblings can meet their TK siblings and be dismissed together through these gates.
Kindergarten Families
Kindergarten students will continue to drop off students at the Walker Gate or Upper Gate.
For dismissal Kindergartners will be dismissed out the front gate near the TK playground. Parents, please arrive a little bit early to park and walk down to the front gate. All siblings can meet their Kindergarten siblings and be dismissed together through these gates.
Volunteer Communications
Based on feedback from families and staff, the district is working on improvements to make the volunteer process more efficient and user-friendly.
While our new system is being finalized, we are still welcoming volunteers. For now, anyone interested in helping on campus can do so as a visitor until our updated process launches, tentatively scheduled for mid-September.
We encourage you to take this time to complete your TB assessment so you’ll be ready when the updated system is in place. We will share more details as we get closer to launch. You can learn more about this process by visiting our website.
Thank you for your ongoing support. Our volunteers truly make a difference in the lives of our students.
Help Our School Receive Additional Funding
Submit an Application for Free and Reduced-Price Meals
Under California’s Universal Meals Program, all PUSD students continue to receive school breakfast and lunch meals at no cost. The Application for Free and Reduced-Price Meals, however, it is important for our families to complete the Meal Program Application for meal reimbursement purposes and for LCFF funding. Because income eligibility guidelines change annually, families must reapply every year. We encourage households to apply online at MySchoolApps.com, or to complete a paper application that can be found in the office. Students that meet income criteria for free or reduced-price meal eligibility may qualify for additional benefits, such as discounts on after-school care, AP testing fees, transportation, home internet, and some utilities. Families with questions about the meal application should call PUSD Food and Nutrition at 858-668-2570.
