EJMS Families,

I hope everyone had a wonderful week and enjoyed their weekend! We are nearing the end of September and have one week until Fall Break. We had an amazing time with the LionHeart Experience. I would encourage you to talk with your child about what they took away from the encouraging message. Thank you to the families that joined us for the community event!

Fall Dance

Our first dance sponsored by PTO will be on Friday, October 24th from 6:00-8:00. In order for students to be eligible to attend dances and field trips they must have at least 4 out of 5 points and all school fees (including previous outstanding balances) must be paid in full.

• Monday, September 29th - 7th and 8th grade band and choir concert

• Tuesday, September 30th - 6th grade band and choir concert

• Thursday, October 2nd - PTO Meeting

• Friday, October 3rd - Powderpuff games and Club Day

• Fall Break - October 6-10

• Tuesday, October 14th - Picture Day, Harlem Wizards at East High

Note to Families: NTI Information

Dear Families,

This note contains important information about our Non-Traditional Instruction (NTI) plan.

Student Work & Access

• All students will receive NTI packets in their homeroom class the week of September 29th. These packets will contain work for all 10 NTI days and should stay at home.

• For students with internet access, there is an option to complete assignments online. All online assignments will be posted by 8:00 AM on the morning of the NTI day.

Teacher Availability

• Teachers will be available to help students via Google Meet from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM.

• All student NTI information, including assignments and the Google Meet link, will be posted in your student's Google Classroom under the "NTI" category.

• To support families who need help in the evenings, at least one teacher from each grade will be available from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM for each NTI day. This contact information will be posted on Google classroom and shared by individual grade levels.

• Teachers will also be available during school hours to respond to emails.

Access Your Student's Fall iReady Diagnostic Results

We are pleased to offer you electronic copies of your student's Fall iReady Diagnostic results from the first week of September. This data provides valuable insight into your student's current academic progress in reading and/or math.

To receive the results, please complete the provided request form for each student you have.

You will receive the results via the primary email address listed for you on Infinite Campus.

Recently, I sent out a student survey to our students. One of the surprising results was that our students consider boyfriend/girlfriend issues as the main reason for their interruptions to learning at school. Anxiety and fitting in were a distant 2nd and 3rd. Since I received the results, I have talked to 3 different students in tears about this issue. This is something that I'd like to work with parents about. Please send me your thoughts so that we can work together to lessen their pain. Middle school students and their relationships are very important. I'd love to hear your thoughts. Email me at Lynn.Byers@jessamine.kyschools.us. I'm also going to ask that if you haven't already, please fill out the parent survey so that I can learn from you.

Sept. 15 - Oct. 15 is National Hispanic Heritage Month. We've been celebrating at EJMS through student posters on display in our hallways and our Hispanic students sharing information and traditions from their cultures. The celebration will culminate with a student assembly on Oct. 15. Check out more about this month in this presentation by EJMS student, Julissa.
