MESSAGE FROM MS LINDA

Welcome back to Term 4! There is a wonderful energy around the school as we kick off our final term of the year. It is so special for me to be back after my sabbatical overseas, and I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to Kath Goldsmith for doing such an outstanding job as Acting Principal while I was away. I am deeply grateful for Kath's leadership and dedication, which kept everything running so smoothly.

The warm weather and blue skies have brought plenty of smiles, and our staff have returned rested and ready for a busy final term. It has been fantastic reconnecting with your children, who have settled in seamlessly and dived right back into their learning.

Term 4 always flies by. Between report writing, and a calendar packed with events, our classrooms and grounds will be humming. Please encourage your children to get involved in all the upcoming activities, and keep an eye out for regular updates.

A reminder that wide-brimmed sunhats are mandatory outdoors for all children throughout Term 4, so please ensure your child brings one daily.

Thank you for your ongoing support. It is wonderful to be back with our school community for the home stretch!

Kia kaha, kia atawhai.

Ngā mihi nui, Ms Linda

On the first day of term we went to Stardome. We had a teacher called Nghio. They took us to their class room. After checking we all were there in their class room, we had a race to figure out space questions about what place the planets were in and stuff. After that we went to the planetarium. It was so trippy and I felt like I was actually there. The characters I liked in the movie were Margaret and Barbara. They said… “You alright, Barbara?” and

“Couldn’t crush me, Margaret!”

After that we went to the park to end the day and have lunch.

Thank you Stardome and Jo for a great day!

Moss

After the holidays, on Monday, we went to the Stardome. We saw a movie. It felt like we were flying. It felt so real. My favourite planet is Saturn and after that we went to the playground.

Bike the World - Bike Train

The Travelwise student leaders are excited to announce the launch of our bike train initiative 'Bike the World'. Starting Thursday 22nd Oct, this bike train will operate regularly on a Thursday morning with students riding to school from Parrs Park, along the shared path. As they ride students form a 'train' of riders. Riders may join at the start of the ride or along the route. Adult riders will be at both the front and the back of the group.

This is an opportunity for capable riders to travel to school in a way that is both active and environmentally friendly - and wheely fun! Prior registration is essential and is via this Google form. On the day communications will be through a What's Apps group. We welcome students and their bikes to be dropped off at the meeting point to participate; you don't have to live along the route.

For further information, see the Google form, or contact matthewm@oratia.school.nz.

THE IMPORTANCE OF A DAILY ROUTINE

A daily routine helps children feel secure, confident and ready to learn. When children know what to expect each day, they are more settled and can develop good habits and independence.

Simple routines such as waking up at a consistent time, getting dressed, eating breakfast, completing homework, having some play time and getting ready for bed help children understand what comes next and reduce the need for constant reminders.

It can be hard to establish a routine at first, and children may push back against changes. However, with patience, consistency and perseverance, routines become familiar and easier to follow – and they are well worth the effort. A consistent routine supports sleep, organisation, emotional wellbeing and learning, while helping children gradually take responsibility for managing their own day.
