Dear La Escuela Fratney Families,

Good afternoon, and welcome back to La Escuela Fratney as we begin a new year together! This is Ms. Grace, your Parent Coordinator, sharing our weekly Monday Message. We are excited for all that January will bring and would like to highlight three important updates for our families.

1. Enrollment Tours and Open Houses

During the months of January and February, we will be offering school tours every Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. for new or interested families. We invite families with younger children in K3 or K4, as well as new families, to visit us during our upcoming open house days. Enrollment for K3 and K4 begins in February, and seats are limited and often fill quickly during the winter enrollment period. Please help us spread the word to families in our community who may be interested in joining La Escuela Fratney.

2. Attendance and Academics

We continue to work very hard to support and strengthen our students’ academic growth, and your partnership is essential. Daily attendance is extremely important, especially this month as students participate in key academic assessments. Students in 1st through 6th grade will be completing assessments in Spanish reading, Spanish math, and English reading. Please help ensure your child is well rested, arrives on time, and is present every day so they can do their best.

3. Family Involvement and Upcoming Events

There are always many ways for families to get involved at La Escuela Fratney. We encourage you to review the volunteer information that has been shared throughout the year, including volunteer policies and procedures found in our Monday Messages. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact me, Ms. Grace, so we can coordinate opportunities based on school needs, your interests, and your availability.

We look forward to seeing our families at several upcoming events:

• January 14th: SEC meeting for all SEC members and all 2nd grade families

• January 21st: Family Leadership Organization (FLO) Schoolwide family meeting all families invited

• January 23rd: Our second schoolwide theme presentation all families invited

• January 30th: Fratney and CLC Family Night all families invited

Buenas tardes y ¡bienvenidas de nuevo a La Escuela Fratney al comenzar un nuevo año juntos! Les habla la Sra. Grace, su Coordinadora de Padres, con nuestro mensaje semanal de los lunes. Estamos muy contentos por todo lo que nos espera en el mes de enero y queremos compartir tres actualizaciones importantes.

1. Recorridos escolares e inscripción

Durante los meses de enero y febrero, ofreceremos recorridos escolares todos los martes a las 10:00 a.m. También invitamos a familias nuevas o a familias con hijos menores que estarán en K3 o K4 a visitarnos durante nuestros próximos días de puertas abiertas. La inscripción para K3 y K4 comienza en febrero; los cupos son limitados y normalmente se llenan rápidamente durante este período de inscripción de invierno. Les pedimos su ayuda para compartir esta información con familias de nuestra comunidad que puedan estar interesadas en La Escuela Fratney.

2. Asistencia y aprendizaje académico

Continuamos trabajando muy duro para apoyar y fortalecer el aprendizaje académico de nuestros estudiantes, y su apoyo es fundamental. La asistencia diaria es muy importante, especialmente este mes, ya que los estudiantes participarán en evaluaciones académicas importantes. Todos los estudiantes de 1.º a 6.º grado realizarán evaluaciones de lectura en español, matemáticas en español y lectura en inglés. Por favor, ayúdennos asegurándose de que sus hijos descansen bien, lleguen a tiempo y asistan todos los días para que puedan dar lo mejor de sí.

3. Participación familiar y próximos eventos

Siempre hay muchas maneras de involucrarse en La Escuela Fratney. Les animamos a revisar nuevamente la información sobre voluntariado que hemos compartido durante todo el año, incluyendo las políticas y procedimientos que se encuentran en nuestros Mensajes de los Lunes. Si está interesado/a en ser voluntario/a, por favor comuníquese conmigo, la Sra. Grace, para coordinar oportunidades de acuerdo con las necesidades de la escuela, sus intereses y su disponibilidad.

Are you interested in volunteering at La Escuela Fratney? We welcome volunteers to support with arrival, lunch, and recess times. Per our school policy, families are not able to volunteer in their own child's classroom on an ongoing basis. If you are interested in volunteering in classrooms, it must be a different classroom and be organized and approved through the parent coordinator Ms. Grace.

Here is the paragraph from the MPS Family manual that describes the volunteer process:

Family Volunteers

Persons interested in volunteering are encouraged to follow the appropriate volunteer application process defined by the district. MPS defines a volunteer as a person who provides services on an ongoing or one-time basis. Persons looking to serve on an ongoing basis or for more than five hours a week or for an overnight field trip must complete an online volunteer application, pass a criminal background check (for those 18 years of age or older), and receive a volunteer assignment by the school administrator or parent coordinator. Persons looking to participate in a daytime field trip or other one-time activity must complete a volunteer waiver form. The online volunteer application and the volunteer waiver form are available on the MPS website under the Families tab > Volunteer.

Thank You for Supporting Our DonorsChoose Projects!

We are so grateful to everyone who shared or donated to our DonorsChoose projects—your generosity truly makes a difference. We are excited to share that three more projects were fully funded this past week, bringing our total to nearly $4,000 raised for our classrooms just last week! Because of your support, Ms. Reyna, Ms. Graciela, and Ms. Kati’s wish lists will come to life this holiday season. Our students will be thrilled to return to school and begin using their new materials right away.We want to remind our community that there are still active DonorsChoose projects that support our bilingual classrooms. There will be one calendar for the whole district again this year. Please review this calendar before making plans for trips or vacations. Students must be in school 95% of the time or more which means they can only miss 1 day a month the whole school year. Students who miss more than 10 days of school a year fall behind academically and socially. Make a plan now to be in school every day on time.
