News from the Principal

Greetings WE Families,

The weather has been a bit harsh this week. Rainy days are always challenging. The WE Crew spirit is alive and well inside and outside of our building. Thank you to all of our families and community members who are sending words of appreciation for the work that our staff continues to do each day.

It has been a joyful week in support of Red Ribbon Week. It has been fun to see the students as they show up sporting the theme. Friday is a dress-up day and Halloween. Students may wear costumes. No face paint, weapons or costumes that can not be maintained for the day (we have had some pretty large costumes in the past). That will all be reserved for trick-or-treating after school. It will still be school as usual.

Thank you to everyone who attended the public input hearing. It is important to stay informed and share your input.

  • Second public input hearing: Thursday, November 13, 6:30-8:00 p.m., Beacon Hill Middle School, Cafeteria

  • November 18: School Board Retreat

  • December 9: School Board meeting

Everyone is encouraged to attend the public input hearings. Please also consider submitting your feedback in writing at this feedback form. More information is available on the CSD website at https://www.csdecatur.net/. This feedback form goes directly to the consultant to inform the planning process. Mark your calendars for these upcoming events.

Other important upcoming events:

  • November 4th: Election Day - Digital Learning Day

  • November 21st: Community Circle

  • November 24th-28th: Thanksgiving Break

From your very grateful principal,

Christine Knox

Digital Learning Day: November 4, 2025

Digital Learning Day: November 4, 2025. All students and staff will work from home that day. Here is an FAQ document that provides additional information. You should be receiving directions from your student's teacher with assignments for the day. WE recognize that this may be a regular workday for our parents, so the assignments are flexible and should be completed with minimal assistance.

Here is an example of the Westchester Choice Board.

National Red Ribbon Week is October 23 through October 31st!

Weโ€™re excited to announce that this yearโ€™s National Red Ribbon Week is October 23 through October 31st! This is a time when our district, along with thousands across the state and nation, join together to promote healthy, drug-free choices.

The 2025 national theme is: โ€œLife Is A Puzzle, Solve It Drug Free." This motto reminds us that every choice is a โ€œpieceโ€ that helps shape a positive, healthy future, and encourages students to think carefully about how their decisions fit into the bigger picture.

We hope this week will spark positive conversations between students and families about the importance of wise choices, resisting pressure, and supporting one another in making healthy decisions.

At Westchester this month for Red Ribbon Week, counseling lessons revolve around self-awareness. Students practice recognizing how their thoughts and feelings contribute to their behaviors, with the goal of making wise choices that make them feel proud. Use the worksheet below to practice at home too!
