A Message From Mrs. Lucas, BHS Principal
Hello Bobcats!
As we get ready to head into winter break, I want to take a moment to celebrate YOU! Thank you for trusting us with your amazing children. Every day, I’m inspired as I walk through the halls—sharing cheerful “good mornings,” seeing students fully engaged in learning, and watching them shine with positivity and teamwork during games and school events.
A huge shout-out to our incredible staff for their dedication to helping students grow—academically, socially, and athletically. Your commitment makes all the difference, and I’m grateful for the village we’ve built together to prepare our students for life beyond high school.
Thank you for contributing to our "Toys for Tots" drive in collaboration with Patriot High School. We received over 300 toys--most of which came from Battlefield and ensured I would not have to wear red at the next Battlefield vs. Patriot basketball game.
Wishing you a joyful winter break and happy celebrations—whether it’s Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa, or simply time to relax and recharge. May your days be filled with peace, laughter, and the warmth of family and friends.
Happy Holidays!
Principal Lucas

We’re proud of our school community for joining Patriot High in our first Operation Better Together! Thanks to your generosity and teamwork, we collected over 250 toys for Toys for Tots. First Quarter Perfect Attendance
Yesterday during Flex 1, we had the opportunity to take a photo of students who achieved perfect attendance for the first marking period. Each of these students has received or will receive a $10 Chick-fil-A gift card as a token of appreciation for their dedication, commitment, and effort to attend school every day, be present in every class, and avoid tardies.
If you are one of these students and have not yet received your gift card, please stop by the main office to collect it.
Congratulations to all the students! Your consistency sets a great example for your peers and plays an important role in your success. Keep up the fantastic work!

A big thank you to our officers, committee chairs, typists, volunteers, and club sponsors Mr. and Mrs. LoPresti, as well as Principal Lucas and Mr. Burney for their incredible support. Go BATMUN!
Poetry Takes Center Stage at Battlefield
Last week, BHS hosted its annual Poetry Out Loud competition, a national program celebrating poetry through performance. Congratulations to our runner-up, Erin Patrick, for her recitation of Joseph Seamon Cotter Jr.’s “Rain Dance,” and to our winner, Rebecca Roth with her recitation of Countee Cullen’s “She of the Dancing Feet Sings.” Rebecca will represent BHS at the regional competition. Featured in the photo are Ms. Hostutler, Mrs. LoPresti, and finalists Erin and Rebecca.

Tutoring Opportunities
Varsity Tutoring
PWCS students have access to free online tutoring 24 hours per day, 7 days a week. Students can access Varsity by logging in to PWCS Portal. To log in to PWCS Portal, students use their PWCS username and password. See this website for more information.
Khan Academy Free Access via the PWCS Portal for Students
All students in grades 9–12 now have access to Khan Academy through the PWCS Portal, powered by ClassLink. This learning platform offers personalized tools, instructional videos, and practice assessments designed to support academic success—especially in preparation for the PSAT and SAT.
Getting Started Is Easy:
Log in using your PWCS username and password (do not include “@pwcs-edu.org”).
Click the Khan Academy icon to launch the app and begin exploring resources.
Khan Academy is highly recommended for students preparing for standardized tests. Its content is aligned with College Board standards offering targeted practice to help students build confidence and improve performance. The most commonly used SAT preparation courses include:
SAT: Math
SAT: Reading and Writing
These courses are selected because they reflect the core sections of the SAT exam. Khan Academy’s SAT Math course covers algebra, problem-solving, data analysis, and advanced math topics. The Reading and Writing course focuses on grammar, vocabulary in context, and evidence-based reading comprehension, all essential skills for the SAT.
To access the SAT Prep courses, click on the “Courses” menu located at the top of the screen. Scroll down and select “Test Prep” from the list of available subjects. Under the Test Prep section, this where you’ll find the two main course options: “SAT Math” and “SAT Reading and Writing.” These courses are designed in partnership with the College Board and provide targeted practice aligned with the actual SAT exam format.
PWCS encourages all high school students to take advantage of this district provided resource to support their learning and college readiness.
