Did you know that eating school breakfast helps fuel students for learning, growth, and success throughout the day?

Research shows that school breakfast plays an important role in providing the nutrition students need to stay focused, healthy, and ready to learn. According to the School Nutrition and Meal Cost Study, students who eat school breakfast consume more of the foods many children do not get enough of—fruits, whole grains, and dairy—than students who eat breakfast elsewhere.

What Does School Breakfast Provide?

School breakfast is shown to provide approximately:

  • 48% of the fruit students need for the entire day

  • 40% of the dairy foods, supporting strong bones and healthy growth

  • 30% of the whole grains, helping students feel full and energized longer

These foods supply essential nutrients such as fiber, calcium, vitamin D, potassium, and B vitamins, which support brain function, digestion, and overall health.

Building Healthy Habits for Life

Starting the day with a nutritious breakfast helps students develop healthy eating habits that can last a lifetime. Studies show these habits are associated with improved focus in the classroom and lower risk of chronic health conditions later in life.

Southwest School Corporation is proud to support students by offering healthy, balanced breakfast options each school day. A strong morning sets the foundation for a successful day of learning.
