Family Literacy Toolkit
📚 September Family Literacy Toolkit
Welcome to the September Family Literacy Toolkit! This month, we’re introducing families to Scholastic Scope magazine and our new Family Literacy Toolkit Hub—your one-stop spot for accessing current and past literacy resources.
Families can access this month’s Scholastic Scope feature article about firefighter Regina Wilson, a first responder -- and hero-- who rushed to help at the World Trade Center attacks on September 11, 2001. Access to the toolkit resources are available through the new Family Literacy Toolkit website and in the Hawk Talk.
Our toolkit mini-lesson video this month introduces Scholastic Scope and the website before moving into the instructional video introducing the strategy your family can practice together at home while reading.
You’ll also find a link and QR code to the Microsoft Form where students and families can complete the monthly activity and submit their work for credit and a chance to earn prizes and incentives.
Click on the images below to access each of the resources in the toolkit and browse the new website. Happy reading, Hawks! 📖🦅
Watch the intro & mini-lesson video.
Read the full Scholastic Scope article, "Into the Choking Smoke."
Practice the strategy & submit your work.

Mental Health Support
Mental health support is here for Holcomb Bridge Middle School’s students and families this year.
Holcomb Bridge Middle School partners with Cartwheel to connect students and families to mental health support when they need it. This year, Cartwheel offers individual therapy for students, parent and caregiver guidance, and new expanded Care Programs for specific challenges including school avoidance, screens and social media use, and intense emotions and behavior challenges.
Appointments are virtual and flexible, including evenings and weekends. Care is free with Medicaid, and most private insurances are accepted. Care is available in multiple languages, including Spanish.
Think your child or family could benefit from support? Complete this simple interest form to get started.

Every student who goes above and beyond the challenge completion and reaches 350 logged minutes during the challenge will also be eligible for a special reader leader perk— a free small popcorn pass from our literacy partner, Aurora Cineplex! 🍿
This month is also a great opportunity to explore books by Hispanic and Latino authors and discover stories, cultures, and perspectives from across the Spanish-speaking world. ¡Feliz lectura! 📖🎉
