Dual Credit

Are you wondering when you could start Dual Credit? What courses you could take? How much does dual credit cost? Is there a way to take dual credit for free? Could I get my associates degree while in high school?

If you as a parent or a student have any of these questions, you will not want to miss the Dual Credit Meeting on March 4th @ 6:15PM.

MOCK - Interim Assesessments

We will be finishing up MOCK testing the first week in March and use this information for tutoring invitations, goal setting, and preparing for the "REAL" STAAR/EOC testing in April. It will be here before we know it and BISD wants all students to show growth and be successful.

BISD participates in all STAAR/EOC subjects and grade-levels. It is important that our testing environment mimic the actual STAAR day's processes so students have a quiet, safe, and productive space. We ask that parents make all efforts to have your child at school on these days so students have this experience and we get the most accurate results possible from the students. We use the results of the interim assessment to plan for intervention, tutoring, and test prep/strategies at each campus. Please play close attention to your child's school calendar to prepare for these assessments.

Read Across America

February 28-March 4 is Read Across America Week. Take time to read to your child or encourage them to read a book. There are so many benefits to hearing others read aloud to them.

Fentanyl and Vaping Guest Speaker

DEA Agent, John Beasley, came to BHS and spoke to all grade levels about the dangers and reality of fentanyl and the life threatening consequences of this drug. He also talked about vaping and how this could lead to other negative choices in their lives. This presentation was factual, informational, and hopefully life changing.

Math Pratice

Students in Mrs. Merkey's class were gathered around the Promethean board to check the steps of their work while figuring out the math problem. Mrs. Merkey uses the district resource of the Promethean to engage her students and to make sure all students can see the work being done to explain math.

Living History Museum

Bowie Intermediate students conducted a Living History Museum at school. 4th graders were learning the genre of information text/biographies in Reading classes and after doing research from books selected from the library, they wrote biographies using criteria from the teacher. The students created their poster to be the selected persons body with a cut out for their face and as visitors approached them they would "come alive" and explain who they were and their accomplishments.

Leveled Reading Groups

Students in Mrs. Pelton's class were at the teacher table doing small group learning. The were using "just right" leveled readers to work on skills and practice their reading.

Scavenger Hunt

In Mrs. Wilhite's class students did a graphing on the coordinate plane scavenger hunt. Students had to follow clues to the next location and find that card in the room and repeat the process until they ended where they started. They loved getting to move around and work together.
