The Borders Bulletin

EJMS Families,

We’ve had a wonderful start to our school year! The energy we feel in our building is positive and it’s great to see all the returning and new Jaguar faces again. Teachers have spent the week outlining expectations and are moving into content. Thank you for your partnership in creating the best learning environment possible for our students. Some areas we would like to highlight your support in:

  • 👚 Dress code - all clothing must cover your body parts and undergarments (no crop tops or volleyball shorts are allowed). This includes open-back workout shirts that don’t have a tank underneath, or off the shoulder tops that expose bra straps. Hats and hoods are not allowed inside the building at any time. We’ve addressed those with students this week, and appreciate your cooperation in helping make sure students are coming to school within dress code.

  • 🛅 Lockers - students may use their lockers in the morning, during lunch transition if they need to get their lunch bag, and then at the end of the day. At any other point during the day they need to ask permission from a teacher to use their locker.

  • 📳 Electronic devices - cell phones, air pods/earbuds/headphones, and smartwatches (when used for anything other than telling the time) are all considered electronics and are not to be used during the day. Beginning at 8:40 they are to be put away and not used. If a student chooses to use an electronic device the device will be confiscated and turned into the office for a parent to pick up. This is now a state law so we appreciate everyone’s commitment to keeping electronic devices put away during the school day.

🚍 Transportation Updates

All transportation changes and messages need to come to the office prior to 3pm. This includes bus notes and messages to students regarding end of day changes. We can not guarantee that the office will be able to make those changes for you after 3pm due to office activity.

📨 Required Letters:

Please note that your student will be receiving a packet of required letters coming home on Monday. If you need a translated copy and did not receive one, please let the school know.

Reminders and Repeat Information

Important Documents & Information for Parents

Students will receive a copy of the Code of Conduct and Handbook through Google Classroom. Teachers will be spending the first two weeks of Homeroom reviewing expectations and information from both of these documents. Please make sure you follow the links for the District Code of Acceptable Behavior and student handbook for EJMS:

  • Student Code of Acceptable Behavior and Discipline 26-27

  • EJMS Parent and Student Handbook 26-27

Please review specific information from the handbook including:

  • Visitors and Food drop off - All visitors must scan in with a valid state issued ID or Driver’s License to enter our school. Please remember that food or drinks (fast food included) from outside sources is not allowed at any time. This includes food being dropped off by parents (other than lunch boxes) and delivery services such as DoorDash.

  • Field Trip & Dance eligibility - Please note that there are behavior and attendance guidelines for students to participate in field trips, dances and extracurricular activities. Please see details in the Parent and Student Handbook and note that OLR must be completed and school fees must be paid in full in order to participate.

Upcoming Dates:

  • Aug. 31 - 6th grade Locker Jam 4:30-5:30

  • Sept. 2 - Block Party Open House (5:30-7:00)

  • Sept. 7 - Labor Day - No School

  • Sept. 9 - iReady Math Diagnostic

  • Sept. 10 - iReady Reading Diagnostic

  • Sept. 10 - PTO Meeting (4:30 in EJMS Library)

  • Sept. 10 - Jaguar Parent Playbook Series 1 (6:00-7:00 pm)

  • Sept. 14 - SBDM Meeting (4:30 in EJMS Library)

Have a wonderful week ahead!

Carline and Dropoff Information Carline and Dropoff Information

  • Morning drop off - reminder that the front doors do not open until 8:30 AM and there is no adult supervision until that time when they may enter the building. Once car line begins at 8:30, please pull all the way forward to have your child exit the vehicle.

  • Arrival - students need to get breakfast from the cafeteria as soon as they arrive at school. They will go to their locker and restroom as needed, get their Chromebook from their 7th period teacher’s cart, and then report directly to Homeroom. Students should stay in their homeroom class and not roam the hallways.

  • Afternoon carline: We understand that families want to get their children as quickly as possible to move to evening activities. It really helps everyone go faster to follow the system as it is designed. Please enter the car line through the Red Oak entrance and move all the way up to meet your child, remaining in the carline the entire time. As we progress through the year, the carline will move faster with everyone following these directions.

This Wednesday: EJMS Open House Block Party Sept. 2

Back to School Block Party (EJMS version of Open House) - Wednesday, September 2nd

We hope you can join us on Wednesday, September 2nd from 5:30-7:00 for the Back to School Block party! We will have food available (thank you to our PTO to provide this free for everyone who attends) and the opportunity to meet your child’s teachers and get important information for families. We also hope to make this a social event with games, activities, and a food truck. Feel free to come anytime during the 90 minute window. It will be very informal, but a great chance to put a face with your child’s teachers and hang out with other families.

Other things to note:

  • The counselors will be stationed inside the building to assist with tours if desired.

  • 7th grade Charleston trip: parent meeting at 6pm in the library
