Mr. Mauck's Musings
It is Homecoming Week at JHS. Backdrops are set up and the golf cart parade will begin at 7:13 with King and Queen crowning occurring at halftime of the Jasper vs. Mater Dei football game tonight. The JHS Wrestling team will host a tailgate and pumpkin sale before the game. Come out and get your Halloween supplies. Student Council was busy with several homecoming activities. On Sunday there was a hall decorating contest with natural biome themes. On Monday and Thursday we had a quiz competition during our CCD class. Tuesday's contest was a guess the Gatorade flavor contest and today was a relay race. The kids did a nice job and there is an energy in the air for tonight. Thank you to the StuCo Spirit Committee, Ms. Henke and Mrs. Ferguson for a great week.
JHS Students Earn Awards:
Congratulations to Holden Bastien for qualifying as a National Merit Scholarship semi-finalist. This means Holden scored in the top 45,000 PSAT scores in the nation. He is in consideration to become a finalist and possible earn the National Merit Scholarship. Luis Reyes Pizarro and Mrs. Samantha Venderley were recognized as the JHS student and staff of the week recipients. Mrs. Luebbehusen's theater class was invited to sing the national anthem at the Cincinnati Reds baseball game. They sounded great during rehearsal in the atrium. Check out their show "Little Shop of Horrors" in a few months.
Important Information at JHS:
Mr. Kendall, the JHS athletic director, wanted me to share a change to the athletic moratorium dates for this coming summer. June 28 - July 4th and July 26th - July 30th will be the two weeks where athletic activities are prohibited at JHS. Many families try to schedule vacations and family activities around these dates. On October 7th, students will be participating in a variety of activities. Seniors- will have the option to take the SAT, Community Service, Job Shadow, or College visit. Juniors- will have the option to take the PSAT, SAT, Community Service, Job Shadow, or College visit. Sophomores- will be taking the PSAT- There is no registration necessary. All Sophomores will automatically be registered. There is no fee for the PSAT. Freshmen- All freshmen will be participating in the Tour of Opportunity. This is a community wide project where freshmen students tour businesses Jasper related to that student's desired career path. This is a great way to give our youngest kids exposure into a possible career. All Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors MUST turn in a permission slip signed by a parent for October 7th. Students will not be allowed to leave after testing without a signed permission slip. Permission Slip for OCT 7
Weekend Activities:
Girls Golf will compete to defend their sectional title from last year at Buffalo Trace Course at 9:30. Good luck ladies. The Marching Wildcats travel to Evansville North for a competition. The band will perform at 10:00 EST. This should be a good measure of where the show is early in the season. Volleyball is traveling to New Albany for an invitational. Boys Tennis will host the SIAC conference tournament finals on Saturday at the Ed Yarbrough Tennis Complex. You have to checkout the new scoreboard. I have not seen anything like it at a high school facility. Boys soccer will travel to FJ Reitz at 10 on Saturday while the girls remain home to host Gibson Southern also at 10 am. Good luck to both of our teams on the pitch.
Next Week and Help Needed:
Next week Unity in Faith and FCA will host a See You at the Pole, prayer event. There will be donuts and prayer around the flag pole at 7:30 in the morning. Check out their flier. Crane engineering is hosting a Tech Quest event and they have shared their STEM newsletter. Information on both can be found in the Community Events section. A message from Mr. Otto and the Jasper German Club;
"We are in urgent need of a host family for a student from our partner school in Staufen, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Our guests will be with us from 9/28 through 10/15. The student is a girl, so we would primarily be looking for a family that has a girl she can befriend and shadow at school. The student would need a bed (not necessarily her own room), three meals per day, and transportation to and from school. Please contact Mr. Otto (dotto@gjcs.k12.in.us) for additional information." If you have a spare room and three weeks to help a guest from our sister city please contact Mr. Otto.
Have a wonderful weekend and Go Cats!

Wildcat Corner
Jasper High School is fortunate to have a school-based enterprise (SBE), our school store. SBEs are managed and operated by students as hands-on learning laboratories that integrate standards in marketing, finance, hospitality, human resources, and management. SBEs provide realistic and practical learning experiences that reinforce classroom instruction. The Wildcat Corner is a major learning component in the Business Program. The teacher and coordinator for this program is Mrs. Jessica Mehringer.
The success of the Wildcat Corner depends on the commitment of students in the Small Business and Business Administration Capstone classes as these students are responsible for working in the school store as part of their work based learning experience.
