Principal Office Updates
Happy Holidays!
As we head into winter break, I want to pause and reflect on the first half of the school year and express my sincere gratitude to our Albright community. The past several months have been filled with learning, growth, and countless moments that highlight the strength of our students, the dedication of our staff, and the partnership we share with our families. Thank you for your continued support, flexibility, and trust as we work together to help every Viking thrive. I hope the upcoming break brings your family time to rest, recharge, and enjoy one another. We look forward to welcoming students back in the new year, refreshed and ready for the exciting months ahead.
Sincerely,
Heidi Hummel
Winter iReady Diagnostic
This week, students completed their winter i-Ready Diagnostic Assessment as a checkpoint to gauge their academic growth. We saw a lot of growth and have much to celebrate! You can expect those results to come home with your student around January 9th.
Student Planner
When we returned from Fall Break, all middle school students were given a brand new student planner. We believe that having a planner is an essential tool in helping our students improve their executive function skills so they can find success in school and beyond. We expect students to carry their planner with them throughout the day and teachers are making time in class to have students fill it out. Ask your student to show you their planner!
❄️ Upcoming Schedule Reminder
We will have a Half Day on Thursday, December 19th, with student dismissal at 10:52 AM.
Winter Break will run from December 22nd through January 2nd.
School will resume on Monday, January 5th.
We hope all of our families enjoy a safe and restful holiday season!
eLearning/Inclement Weather Plan
As we enter the season when school closings are more likely, I’d like to share our eLearning plan. If weather or other circumstances make it unsafe for students and staff to travel to and from school, we will shift to an eLearning day. Our goal is to notify families as early as possible whenever we need to make that change.
eLearning days count as regular student attendance days. Students will need to log in to their Chromebook and join Google Meets for their scheduled classes. Attendance will be taken, and students who do not join their Meets will be marked absent.
If you anticipate a family circumstance that may prevent your child from participating in an eLearning day, please contact me (Mrs. Hummel) at hhummel@saltcreek48.org. If we know ahead of time, we may be able to help problem-solve and find a solution so your child can participate.
You can find the schedule and expectations for the day HERE.
Community Engagement Series
Our next community engagement event will take place on Tuesday, February 10th. The focus of this event will be on the emotions we all experience and how to manage them so they don't manage us.
We hope that parents will be able to come away with some strategies to help their child work through big emotions in a healthy and safe way.
This is the second of three community engagement sessions that focus on one of the presentations from the Glenbard Parent Series. Please see the attached flyer for more information on the event.
An RSVP form will come out closer to the date of the event.
New Main Entrance for Parents and Late Arrivals
Albright Middle School has a new main entrance! Please note that Door One on the north side of Villa Ave is no longer in use for parent drop-offs or late student arrivals. All parents and students arriving after the start of the school day should now use the new main entrance located on the south side of Villa Ave, as shown in the photo. This update helps improve security and streamline our entry procedures. Thank you for your cooperation!
⏰ Punctuality Matters! The 7:43 AM Bell
We want all of our students to start their day ready for success! A crucial part of that readiness is simply being on time.
Please remember that our arrival window is from 7:35 AM to 7:43 AM. If a student arrives at the front office after 7:43 AM, they are officially marked as tardy.
Consistent punctuality helps students:
- Catch the Day’s Key Information: The first minutes of class are essential for daily instructions and lesson overviews.
- Build Lifelong Habits: Being on time is a critical skill needed for high school, future jobs, and life responsibilities.
- Avoid Disruptions: Arriving on time ensures the classroom environment remains focused and free from interruptions.
Please help us reinforce the importance of a smooth morning routine at home. We appreciate your partnership in ensuring students are in their classrooms and ready to learn by 7:45 AM sharp!
The New Stronger Than EVER Award!
This year, we are proud to introduce the Stronger Than Ever Award — a way to celebrate the incredible dedication, heart, and purpose that make our schools thrive. Do you know a staff member who is building a new foundation, showing the same unwavering heart, or living out a bigger purpose for our students and community? We invite you to nominate them!
Help us shine a light on the people who make a difference every day. Submit your nomination below and let’s recognize those who are truly Stronger Than Ever!

Sports & Clubs
After School Clubs Permission Slips
We are very excited to begin our after-school clubs. In an attempt to streamline our processes, we have created one permission slip for all after-school clubs. If your child will be interested in participating in an after-school club, please complete the form linked below. Note: You are not signing your child up by completing the permission slip. Students will talk to the club sponsors to sign up. This just lets the school know your child has permission to stay for the clubs you have selected.
Baking Club: Due to popular demand, Baking Club needs to be specifically signed up for. If your child would like to participate in Baking Club, please complete THIS INTEREST FORM to sign up for the club and tell us which session would work best for your student/family.
Share Your Sports Photos!
Did you snap any great pictures at last week’s cross country meet? Or have photos from any of this year’s sports events? We’d love to see them! Please email any sports pictures to Mrs. Kasher at dkasher@saltcreek48.org. Your photos may be featured in upcoming school publications or the yearbook. Thanks for helping us capture these memorable moments!
SPORTS PHYSICALS
Sports physicals are required for any students who would like to participate in school-sponsored sport activities. They are only good for one calendar year. If you are not sure if you child needs a new one please reach out to the school nurse Mrs. Simmons.
Attending Home Games
Due to our ongoing construction, we are hosting our basketball "home" games off-site this year at St. Alexander's Parish.
The church has been kind enough to rent out its gymnasium space so that we could have a place to call home while our new gymnasium is being built. Please be aware that the seating is more limited at this location. There is one small bank of bleachers, and we will be putting out folding chairs, but it's still not very large.
For athletes who will be competing at St. A's, we have arranged for bus transportation to the facility after school. Transportation home from games and practices will be the responsibility of the student athlete and their family. Coaches will send home more detailed information on transportation and expectations.
Students planning to attend the game as spectators will need to find their own transportation to and from the game and must remain in the gym at all times. There will be a staff member from AMS present to supervise students who wish to come cheer on their classmates. If a student spectator chooses to leave the gym, then they must leave the church campus and will not be allowed re-entry.
St. Alexander's Parish is located at 300 S. Cornell Ave, Villa Park.

Lunch Menu and Payment Options
New at AMS: A la carte menu items
Beginning late next week, we will offer a la carte snack items for purchase through the lunch lines. The items sold will include baked chips ($1.50), chocolate chip cookies ($1.25), and sparkling water ($2.00). There are a few rules around how much and when students can purchase the items:
- Students with a negative lunch balance will not be allowed to purchase these items
- Students may only purchase one of each type of item per day (i.e. only one bag of chips, one cookie, and one drink)
- If a student is only purchasing a snack item, and not a hot lunch, that student must wait until students getting their hot lunch have been served, then they can enter the lunch line to purchase their snack (we want to prioritize students getting their meals)
- The prices listed above will be consistent for everyone, regardless of whether the student receives free/reduced lunch prices
- Students must use money loaded on to their account for the snack items; we do not accept cash

Often there are times when our buses are running late. Westway Coach will notify us when there is a delay in time for buses so we can notify our parents of the bus that is running late. Sometimes a situation can happen when our office is closed and a parent tries to call us. If this is the case you may contact Westway Coach at 630-270-2720.
